If you use a checking account/debit card strictly for PP, do they take any fees out monthly/annually, or is it only when you sell something? I checked the PP site and saw the sellers fee, but no mention of any other fees. If you sell one item per year, is the fee from that sale the only fee they'll charge?

Fees are only payed when you sell something and payment is received.  Someone can send you money as a "gift" and no fees are deducted.

No cost to have the debit card. Ive had one for years. Be careful with to many giftings though. And if people put gun stuff in the notes they will catch it.

Thanks guys. I figured they had small print/hidden fees, so this is good news.

On ebay sales, the seller always pays the fees.  $0.30 + 2.9% I believe.   Use ppcalc.com

But with private transfers, the buyer can elect to pay the fees so the seller nets a set amount.  Or if you mark "gift", you can transfer it to them for free.....but you cannot use a credit card (debit only.)

Bear in mind that if you use the free "gift" clause to buy something and the person stiffs you......YOU'RE F%#$@'d.  The money is already out of your account because it was a debit card, and you violated their terms by lying.  You're not getting you money back.

I NEVER buy anything off the internet on a debit card.  Always use a credit card.  Plus, link you PayPal account to a dedicated checking account with no more than the minimum amount in it.....do not authorize overdrafts.  That way if they try to pull money out b/c of a a-hole buyer, they're not going to get anything.  PayPal sides with the buyer 90%+ of the time.  I always transfer the money and withdraw it from the ATM prior to shipping.  If the post office loses the package, and the buyer files a dispute, PayPal will pull that money back out of your checking account and hold onto it until the issue is resolved.  Now, with newer accounts, they'll sit on it until the buyer says they rec'd the package and all is good.  F' that!!!!!

I just switched all of my banking down here to Russellville, so my checking account in Union will be going unused. That's the only reason I'm considering using that account for PP, because it won't have any of my normal banking in it. I don't have any credit cards anymore, so this is the only way.

We keep finding items we want, like some of Brads small electronics, that can only be purchased using PP. Having PP will save us some money.

Nice idea about canceling the overdraft option on that account; I hadn't thought of that.
