Way to keep the camera handy GoCop. I used to travel through Wichita almost weekly selling outdoor power equipment. The B1's would fly daily or at least it seems that way. I was always pulling over no matter where I was just to watch them in all there glory. Whenever I had a traveling companion they thought I was completely crazy to pull over just to get a glimpse. I also tried to visit the Boeing surplus buildings every trip as well. That was very cool. Most of that shit couldn't be sold to us lowly civilians anymore.
Since I've been back in St.Joe I find myself watching the C130's flying daily out of Rosecrans. I'm sure most people are so used to them that they don't even pay attention anymore. I just can't help it, I'm an airplane nut and I refuse to apologize for it. Hell sometimes an AC130 comes to the tactical school there but security is tight and you can't get near them. Once I even saw a German C130 with a weird rocket takeoff assist but they didn't use them unfortunately. |

This. I got my BS and MS (80-85) at CMSU. My undergrad was a dual major; aviation was one of em. I use to fly out of Sky Haven. It was pretty cool flying around and seeing A10's, Cobra's and near the end the B2. We had a week long No Fly moratorium while they initially flew them in. Afterwards, one night I was flying a cross country and my instructor told me to look up. For a brief second we saw a B2 silhouetted by the moon. Quoted: Move to Warrensburg, A-10's, B2's, T-38's are an almost weekly occurrence here. B2 stealth my ass, when that thing flys over it louder than all the others. |

Do you live near the lake of the Ozarks? If so go play golf at Osage National or hang around the Osage River, the A 10's fly low enough to see the pilots. Since moving to the lake I've been overflown by B2's, chinooks, an Apache, and a ton of A10's.
It's pretty cool. |

I am fairly close to a direct line off one of the runways at Rosecrans and am up on a hill, the C130's come over very close sometimes |

Where are those A-10s based? I didn't think Missouri bases had A-10s. Being on the eastern side of the state we don't see shit. Used to get to watch the MO Air guard's F-15s and the occacional blackhawk useing highway 70 as a marker to go west. But other than that it's just commercial jet liners and medical choppers.
I really miss Spirit's air show. My house was under their show holding pattern. Every year it was P-51 city. |

The A10's are assigned to the 442 FW which is part of the Air Force Reserves. A10's have been at Whiteman AFB since 1993 and before that were at Richards-Gebaur ARS near Grandview. this We have some deployed right now too. Maybe ill post some pictures from the deployment when I am back home in a few weeks. |

| I used to seem them all the time when Richards-Gebaur was still active, as well as a bunch of other types of military aircraft. Now I only hear that distinctive rumble of a non-commercial jet when flyovers for the Chiefs games happen. The last really cool thing I saw was a B2 hooked up to a tanker fly over my house a couple years ago. Which I found odd, because they're probably just gaining decent altitude by the time they reach my house. It had to have been 10-15k feet up, if not more. Took pics, but you couldn't make anything out. |
| When I ran the public works for the small town I live in I would see A-10's all the time.I would be working out at the waste water facility and two of them would come screaming in at tree top level and then pull off in opposite directions.I guess they were using the waste water plant for simulated bombing runs.......scared the shit out of me,they are pretty quiet at tree top level when you aren't expecting them, lol. |

Looks like they had just come out of Ft. Leonard Wood. I miss the airshow too......was at every one of them since 1994. Boeing always had a lot of pull bringing in the Blue Angels and other performers. |

When I lived in Grandview, and Richard Gebaur AFB was still in operation we used to get buzzed all the time. Love the sound of a A10.
My favorite was just a few years ago we were at some lake (can't remember if it was Stockton, or Middle Creek) when one came in a tight turn overhead but so low we could see the color of his helmet as he passed. |
