I'm quickly approaching the point where I'll have to sell some guns to make ends meet. Unemployment sucks. I much prefer FTF sales as it eliminates the hassles of shipping, but that is not always possible. When y'all ship a long gun to a buyer (or his FFL) how do you package it to ensure safe arrival? It seems to me that purchasing an inexpensive hard case (Doskocil, Plano, etc) would be the best option as long as the case comes in a cardboard outer box. I imagine finding a random box to properly fit a hard case would be problematic. ETA: I've considered renting a table at a gun show but would rather not get charged with "dealing without a license" by the atf. |

Dude...that sucks. When did you go unemployed???
I have never bought a hard case for a gun, but I have bought a gun sleeve for them before I package it up. I try to break the rifle down as far as I can. I've shipped shotguns and rifles that break down mostly. If it's a long gun that can't be broken down easily, make a box, put the gun in a sleeve, pad with news paper. Please...don't sell the guns...sell the house first.... |

Sorry to here about the situation, depending on the kind of job your looking for I might be able to help. I have family/friends every where around KC and north, and I do a fairly good job of making sure people owe me favors ![]() For those of who have heard about Eric's porn collection......careful with the use of the word "favors" hahahahahaha |
| I dont know you but since you are a MOD i would say that you must be trustworthy. I've made this same offer to some of my friends, if you have items that i really like and my cash situation is right i would agree to purchase one or more with the strict understanding that you could buy them back when the time was right. |
| Sorry to hear about the job loss. Feel free to come by and pick up a box if you need one. I can tell you how I typically prep my guns for shipping to protect them from the typical shipper abuse. After shipping FNC sear guns and other NFA weapons for years I have got it down pretty well. |

I use these: http://www.cameronpackaging.com/gun_boxes.html It is well worth a few bucks to have boxes on hand and not have to go begging. As for padding, I have been using newsprint. I used to be able to buy "end rolls" from the local newspaper pretty cheap –– they used to charge $1 a roll but they've recently jacked their prices. Just one end roll (the remnant left after they take the big rolls of newsprint off the press) lasts a long, long time. I just wad it up and pack all around the gun, making sure that it can't move around inside the box. Lots of tape and you're done. BTW, you won't get charged with dealing without a license so long as you don't do anything that blatantly suggest you're buying guns for resale. According to federal law, a person who sells "all or part of his collection" is not engaged in business. |
