Are any of the former instructors who taught under Ray Chapman and/or John Skaggs teaching the Chapman method of practical shooting? Don't they still teach that stuff out there in your neck of the woods, in the desert near Paulden? Ain't that the Cooper method? |
| I took a class in the fall of 2000 out at the Chapman Academy. John Skaggs taught the class along with a few other older instructors. Toward the end of the 3 day class we were shooting at movers on the upper range and John was shooting with us. He taped a penny in the center of the target and every shot he made could not have gotten any closer to the penny with out hitting it. He was shooting a worn out looking Berretta 9 out of a worn out nylon holster. John and the group were absolutely the best at diagnosing what was wrong with your fundamentals and helping you fix it. The class was not as combat oriented as a lot of the other schools are now, but every one in my class left shooting a lot better. Round count for 3 days was right at 1500 which included some after class steel plate contests. Not sure who is still out at Green Valley teaching but it was a great place to shoot. |
