As many of you know I am an automechanic working for the USPS. Unfortunately these last two years have been almost hell. The old manager retired and the new one is/has/will always be a sociopath. He has been destroying the operation and exterminating any semblance or morale.
Before this all started I began searching for new jobs. Well, after two years one finally came through. Yours truly is now a US Mail Carrier. That's right, the spittin' image of Mr. Zip (you old geezers know who I am talking about). My vice grips and hammer will be hung in a display case and i will no longer be covered in grease. It is a good thing.
FYI, I have been doing this postal mechanic thing for 21 1/2 years.
FYI Pt II, I have not worked in an environment with female co-workers for this entire time. I wonder what it will be like?

I wish you the best of luck!!!

Something tells me you will not like working around all the womenz...  You'll need to watch your mouth so as to not offend anyone...

That is actually my biggest fear. Work in an all male atmosphere for over 20 years you just say whatever you want whenever you want with little regard for how appropriate it might be. I worry I might just pop off with some smart ass remark before my brain can realize what is it doing.

You'll also realize the womenz bring a lot of stuff to the work place and I don't mean sammiches. They bring drama.

Good look fine sir.

Hi Gary,

Well not only what you say, but what you do not say will get you in trouble with the women. Then there are the ones that while it is that time of month, just looking at them might get you fired. Hey at least now you can care pepper spray for the dogs and homies. Second thought, you best carry some heat too. Just do it very quietly.

Hope it will be an easy transition after so many years

Over the years, I've heard from different female sources that they would rather work with a bunch of men instead of women because of all the drama that is generally common amongst the fairer sex.

Imagine them all as your wife/mother/sister.

As a worker with a shitbird boss I fully appreciate the motto - "The beatings will continue until morale improves!"

I had a shit bird boss once... we were both fairly subtle and devious since he knew the place would go to hell with out me, and I knew couldn't just call his boss and oust him, so AFTER I beat him into submission and he stopped being a prick to everyone (at least when I was around) I really set the wheels in motion on my master plan... long story short, I got a promotion, he was no longer part of the equation.

Point is, if you enjoy your job and don't like seeing things that you have worked hard to build up then sometimes you have to take the man down. Although that said, moving over to a job as a mail carrier could be a step in the right direction for you.

Congrats on your new position, Gary. I wish you the best of luck. Hope you will be happier there.
I wish I could have Gary as my friendly neighborhood mailman ... we don't have a mailman visiting the houses here. I guess we live in rural area, so they pool our mailboxes in certain places. We gotta go a few blocks to check our mail. Nobody in my township has a mailbox in front of his/her home.

Trust me its better than having a mail box right outside your door and having some neighbors like I have...

First day finished and my feet are killing me! Most of these houses have the mail slot by the front door so I get to do a lot of walking. Oh, I have about 550 addresses to deliver to. Yeah, walking up maybe 400 front doors, another 75 by the street and maybe 75 in street corner mailboxes.
Of course these number are wild ass guesses.
Anyway, good night all, I am beat...

Not a mailman but I did change my job the other day.

Eat well
Take glucosomine
Multivitamins
Water
Good  shoes
Good shoes to wear while the other good shoes are recovering every other day
Lots of good socks
Ar15 plate cover on your mail truck.

Don't worry, sleep will come.

Both my parents are Postal Employees, Mother has around 20 years with them, step father about 12.  They are both Postmasters and have started as rural subs working their way up.  IDK what your experience is with the USPS but within the last few years they were both promoted to Postmasters of smaller offices think they call them Level 13's to which recently it was announced they were closing a metric shit ton of them.  Well guess what, both of their offices were on the cut list so now they are in the works of taking Promotions that are Demotions, what i mean by that is taking a lower position like Supervisor for a bigger office that will pay them more than being a postmaster.  I might be a little Jaded about the post office but IMHO they are a terrible employer, all the unions are absolute shit with one exception the city carrier union, if you say "im getting old my knees hurt" and someone takes offense to the statement they will file a grievance that stays in your file forever. From what i have seen when a woman in the office is sleeping around the office the men get fired and the woman gets transferred with a promotion.

Just curious where you ended up. I am  a  carrier in O'fallon MO and the two or so hours I spend in the office seem like a lifetime, the other 6-7 are street time and it flys by. I have 743 deliveries about half are street boxes the rest are walking like you described. After a few weeks you will get accustomed to the walking and it wont be too bad. If you havent already gotten some try the Thurgood Softstreets best shoe investment ever. Brookfield has them as do a number of other vendors. If you havent gotten one get a rain coat. One of the long duster looking ones. They work well and if your walking the parka will be way too hot most of the year. Did you get a route? I heard there are tons of vacant ones in the city. We have two guys that are still PTF's but hold down vacant routes. The union is trying to force them to turn them regular.

I am a female paramedic and worked at my district about 10 years. I agree with the above comment.  I would rather work with males than most females. DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA! Good luck to you.

Now that you mention it, I've herd a lot of women say that....

I think it when you put three or four or more in the same office or Area of Operation that when the drama starts...
