I have 2 ar's one is a 5.56/2.23 the other a 6.8SPC. the 6.8 stock trigger was horrible almost 9lbs (8lb13oz)
I bought 2 of these spring kits http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=7582/Product/AR_15_REDUCED_POWER_SPRING_KIT

Mustangracer helped me work on the 6.8 trigger and it dropped from almost 9lb to 4.5lbs. My 5.56 I did at home and it's around 3.5-4lbs and smooth as butter. A little touch up on the trigger inards and the new springs was the trick.
If money is no option buy a nice drop in but if your on a budget this might be a good alternative.

Giselle - S3G or the SSA-E.   Both are great triggers.  I have one in my midlength and one in my MK12 Mod1 setup.

S2S here.  I have found it to be a great "like glass-breaking' drop in.

I guess the real question is what use will the gun have?

Gotta go with the Geissele triggers.   Us "Oporators"  use the best....

If you want the best, nothing beats a timney at all.

And shoot the p!ss out of it and the trigger will smooth itself out over time...

Or...15 Minute Practical Trigger Job for the AR-15

Wilson Combat TTU is my favorite. It is amazing: crisp, short reset, no creep, just perfection at 4lbs. If it is a dedicated long range rig, I would probably go with something a little lighter.

The rifle purpose will be precision.  I want to make a very precision rifle.

I have a RR NM 2 stage with 4-5K on it which is very sweet, but of course not poplar now because of reliability problems. A Bill Springfield from a few years ago that is very nice also now maybe not a good idea, and a JP which is low mileage and good, has just a tiny bit of creep then breaks clean. Life is too short to shoot a crappy trigger. If I was buying a new one today would likely be the new Geissle.

I'm with afsoc on this one.

All my AR triggers are stock single-stage GI units, except for the Geissele SSA (~$170) I have in my LaRue and I like it a LOT!  I might upgrade to one of their DMR triggers at some point.

Now Geissele has brought out an entry-level trigger, their new S2S trigger, at ~$120.  If this is your budget range, why go with anything else?  With Geissele you are paying for a trigger that is military-tough.  What is a reliable trigger worth to you?

And on that note, outside of a match-only rifle, I would never, ever mess with lighter trigger & hammer springs in an AR15.  To do so is to risk reliability especially if shooting mil-spec and surplus ammo with their hard primers.  Again, what is a reliable rifle worth to you?

the only one I know of that is actually in use in the U.S. Military is the Knights Trigger Group.

Two Stage Match Trigger
Match Trigger, 4.5 lbs Pull.

Weight: 2.4 oz

P/N: 98032-02

NSN: 1005-01-485-9457

My single Match Trigger is an RRA... I shot superior groups from that rifle with a STOCK trigger group that another ARF member said was shit.

Plenty of .mil SPR type rifles are being issued to our Boys with Geissele SSF or SSA triggers.  They routinely go 5-figure round counts without fail.

I have one AR lower dedicated for hunting in 6.8SPC, 204 Ruger and 450 Bushmaster. I used the Timney AR-15 Skeletonized 4 lb trigger for this build and have been very happy with it. No creep and the release is very smooth around 3.5 lbs.

The Mk-12 SPR is made by Knights and has the Knights trigger in it...

There may be some other rifles that have a Geissele but I don't know about that.
Possibly some that were COTS purchased but no Official ISSUE Geisseles that I can find info on.

Brother, they could fill volumes with what you and I don't know.

Bill Geissele has been supplying his SSF trigger to USSOCOM customers since the mid 00's.  The SSA trigger is a direct result of his work with the SSF triggers.

I use either Chip McCormick triggers
CMC Trigger

or American Trigger Corp, AR Gold Triggers.
American Trigger Corp

Yes they may be a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
