Glad you're ok. That's the one reason I'm cautious about getting into reloading, Murphy's Law and all.

Ya know .. I'm 32 and have been reloading since the age of 8 (under adult supervision as a child) and have NEVER had issues till today.  I'm truly at a loss of words to explain what or how shit went south as I really don't know.

I'm sending the barrel to the smith that cut it and will wait to see what he says .. no sense in any speculation at this point.
I'm really hoping that Pac-Nor barrel is salvageable!

its mostly speculation, but if the powder charge was correct as you say then there may be some truth in this (from the other thread). I have heard this many times and it is something that anyone trying to load subsonic rounds in a rifle case should be aware of, specifically I cam across allot of discussion on this topic when looking into subsonic 308 loads...

Quoted:
ds762, want the truth, the load could have been dead on, and you can still end up with the same problem (read way to disclaimers out there not to use H-110/296 (one and the same gun powder) for subsonic loads).
When you load a case only half full or less of powder, there is a chance of the spark reaching both ends of the powder in the case, causing the working pressure to triple over the norm (happens often with pistol loads when using fast burning powder in mag type loads for target use, and when the powder is ignited at both ends, can cause a shock wave to set all the power off at once, instead of a clean controlled burn)
Your KB was not just that a case separation (venting pressure would have only blown the mag out at most), it was that the working pressure when sky high instead to crack the carrier and such.
So either you got flash over to ignite both ends of the powder at the same time (you where not using a filler to keep the powder tight against the primer for a single direction burn), or you had a barrel obstruction that caused the problem.
Bottom line, for subsonic loads, you want a faster burning powder that will almost completely fill the case, or at least pack in a filler on top to compress the powder against the primer so you don't get an irregular burn/denotation shock wave against the powder casing it to  dam near quadruple pressure spike.

Glad you are OK.

Thanks for sharing the info.

I will be using factory 300BLK for now.  I may try reloading later.  I would go with another powder selection as noted in the other post to keep your case full.

That's not going to buff out.  Ouch.

Agree, not a case separation.  Glad to see you will over time be good as new and a bit wiser. Sorry to see your rifle aint going to buff out though. At least you where able to walk away and no trip to the ER.

Now after reading the comment about using a faster powder. I am going to have to go back to my load manual and do some comparing of powders and loads. I would have thought a slower powder would allow you to fill up the case more. (walks off scratching head and ass).

I'm all of the sudden really glad I went with AA1680 for reloading 300BLK. H110 was advised against by RSilvers (SilencerTalk, helped "develop" 300BLK) and AA1680 was favored. I think someone posted in your thread that it was preferred.

Sorry to see what happened and hope that you're able to get everything fixed up and back running in short order.

On a side note, it was pretty easy to see you were gripping the magwell when you shot!

Do we need that chrono now to see 1: how fast we can push those subsonics, and 2: fill up the empty space?   The AA1680 is mostly filling the case, but...

wow.  Glad you're ok, OP.

I think we are ok....the aa1680 was the recommended powder from the guy who helped develop it, and nowhere have I read we need a filler. I read a few times that people were using H110, and RSilvers specifically recommended NOT using it......I can only guess if this is why.

if you guys don't have on (or anyone in KC actually) and want to meet me some time you can use mine.  i have a pact but i do need to get 1 new screen for it.  i somehow split one in half with a .223  funny thing is though the screen isn't much thinner than a 223 and i split the whole thing from edge to edge, good shot hu
