Well, I noticed my AC was not cooling late this morning. I did not clean the outside coils this year so I figured that was it. I went out and sprayed them clean. A couple hours later it still wasn't cooling very well. I noticed the copper piping coming inside was sweating and followed it to this..... http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq293/badka2ma/2011-06-15_14-54-43_528.jpg http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq293/badka2ma/2011-06-15_14-55-01_740.jpg I'm going to let it thaw, does anyone know if that much water will do any damage to my furnace since the ice is directly above it? Once it's thawed I'm going to clean the interior coils thoroughly.... ![]() Iceing is generally caused by too little refrigerant, so you probably need a charge. If Ruger Dog Guy is still about you might be able to get some help from him if you arent too far from the beaten path. |

After more investigation I have found that there are drip panels below the coils to run the condensation into the drain tube. No furnace for me. I don't want it to get any hotter in my house than it has too..... I'll let it thaw on it's own. It's going to be nice weather this evening and tomorrow morning, I'll last longer than the ice. |

Your low on freon which means you have a leak in the system. Turn your AC- OFF and the FAN to ON.
You need to have the leak found, fixed, and have it filled or else its just going to keep doing it. If your in STL I have a guy that does good work for reasonable prices. |

Let it naturally melt and dry 2nd option for problem which nobody else mentioned is a very clogged dirty filter Low on freon is not the only cause Broken v - belt to the fan or even a non-working evaporator motor This is all true but if all else is working then iceing is going to be low refrigerant. Dirty filters are painfully obvious, though I do know of people who don't even know they HAVE a filter! Some types of filters can also restrict airflow and contribute to this sort of thing. Clogged condensate drains don't help either. |

I appreciate all the help and tips from everyone... Me and the better half ran a few errands, grabbed a bite to eat, caught a flick, came home and all the ice is gone. The innards look pretty clean to me. At this point I don't think there is anything I can do as I'm not trained in the arts of Heating/Cooling, I'm gonna get someone over here tomorrow to look at it. leo84 if you post your guy I'll call him in the a.m. and see how busy he is. Thanks again to all. |

If you can wait until the weekend, I can swing by, kinda busy right now lol, but I'm on your side of the state, as long as we're not talking Farmington or something crazy.. Shoot me a PM and I'll get back to you tonight. Check your filter first of all, on the t-stat turn cool to off and fan to on, let us know if the fan does work, blowing air in the correct direction, and we can go from there. The system would cool and not freeze at 78 degrees, anything less and it would slowly freeze over. I finally broke down and called a professional, 4 hour response is outstanding for Heating / Cooling. They cleaned the outside unit extensively, he said that did help but wasn't the problem. It was low on freon, 2lbs. to be exact. $163 = Ice cold AC. |
