| I am a little late on this but I went on vacation right after last weekends Appleseed. I know there were a couple more Arfcommers in attendance. Just wanted to know how you did and your thoughts were on the shoot. The wind was something else on Sunday. |
|
Shot a 228 on Saturday out of 250 and a 207 in the 30mph wind on Sunday, not sure what was moving more in the wind me or the target. (Mounted on wire between t-posts) Works OK till the wind picks up.
Some pansie next to me shot a 208 on Sunday then left at noon. Oh yeah that was you. Sooo close. Have not seen anyone else post anything so not sure if there was any other ARFCOM guys there. I enjoyed it as usual, always great to see the guys show up with some really nice hardware and matching attitude and then they suck completely. I know there were a couple guys that took all day just to get shots on the paper at 25yards. |

rules?? not really. you can shoot anything you want. a lot of people shoot .22LR's. an LTR is a "liberty training rifle". basically it is usually a 10/22 with mil style peep sights (look up tech sights). IIRC, you will usually shoot 13 round course with 5 in 1 mag and 8 in another mag. single shot and lever guns make this really fun but i have seen/heard of people doing it. i think next time i go i will try my garand for a couple of rounds, i have the 3 and 5 round enblocs for it.

| Next Bates City shoot is the first part of October. You will see all kinds of rifles but a magazine fed 22 semi automatic would be preferred. Always see lots of bolt actions and tube feds but it just makes the coarse of fire harder to complete. I have a stock scoped Ruger 10-22 and a Marlin 795. I have used the Marlin the last two times as its fair trigger is better than the stock Ruger trigger and it is very accurate once you find what kind of ammo it likes. There are usually a large variety of ARs, M1A ETC but ammo can get pricey as your will need I would guess 500-700 rounds to complete both days. You can also get the handgof things on day 1 and then switch to the heavy artillery on day 2 of you want too. |

I seem to do better at AS with open sights. With my marlin 795 with tech sights I shot a 219 last fall and a 228 last sat. I switched to a Ruger 10/22 on sunday and shot a 209 last fall and a 207
last sunday. I think I fuss the shot too much with the scope and end up screwing myself on time. The second course of fire they use is a transition from standing to sitting, shoot 2 , mag change, shoot 8 more, in 55 seconds on 2 targets that represent upper torso of a man size target at 200 yards, that's the one that usually gets me cause the timer starts and that 55 seconds is up and you still got rounds in the gun, and they are yelling CEASE FIRE. CRAP I would like to go to one of the rifleman boot camps but I have not had a vacation in 10 years I bet if I took a week off to go shooting instead of taking the wife on a vacation I would be looking for a new wife when I got back. They have alot of info on the website RWVA.org they have list of suggested items take with you to the Appleseed but one thing for sure is have a USGI type sling on all your rifles, that is the main thing they are teaching you is the proper use of a sling and the USGI will perform the different types of rigging the sling. If you get a chance go. I will be back at Bates City in the fall. |
When I attended in June 2009, I achieved my Rifleman patch on my first try on Saturday using my LTR (10/22). No one else earned their patch until Sunday. ![]() Sunday I changed to a suppressed & scoped 10/22 and it wasn't any easier to cross the 200 point threshold, but I did it 3 more times. They said I only get one patch though. What was fun was being between two .223 shooters. BANG! BANG! pfff. BANG! BANG! pfff. |
| Interesting. One thing I have learned between AS, USPSA, and 3-Gun, is I do much better with optics. Especially on Rifle. I'm planning on building an Open class race gun for handgun eventually, but my rifles all have optics on them now. I can't seem to hit crap with irons. |
