Doesn't matter which size (9mm, .233 or .308), they all require the same type of expertise. One HAS to be good at welding (TIG would be better than MIG) as the trunion and charging tube are welded to the receiver. If you're starting with a "flat", the rear sight base, "semi shelf" and rear stock mount also must be welded on after bending the flat around a mandrel and welding it together along the bottom. Then you need a 12-20 ton hydraulic press to press the barrel into the trunion and setting the initial "head space" (bolt gap), and a good drill press/mill to drill the barrel pin once the bolt gap has been set. Then, if you're using a parts kit, you have to convert the trigger pack to semi-only. IMO building HK roller-locked guns is nowhere near a beginner's job unless one is already very skilled with mad shop skills. Even then, they are a very finicky system to get runnign right. But once they are running right, they are beauteous! |
| guilliebear2000 on HKPro is hosting another free build weekend in Jan. He allows 10 people to come in, with their own parts, etc and he supervises while they build their own. all 10 slots are full but if nothing else works out, it might be good to go and watch, etc. He is in N.E Oklahoma.. |
