So FYI for those on here that were looking for PD jobs, Lee Summit is now hiring again (who by the way allows canidates that aren't POST certified preapplication).

However I have noticed a growing trend with PD, that you must have perfect vision to work for many departments.  Many departments seem to have gone to 20/20 correct, and no worse than 20/40 uncorrected (for glass and contact wearers).... I understand the need to still have good vision in case a contact falls out or glasses break/fall off etc, but really who has 20/40 vision and wears glasses?!  I mean thats dang near perfect anyways!

"Visual acuity must be 20/20 in each eye with or without correction.
Uncorrected visual acuity must be 20/40 binocular for wearers of hard and semi-rigid gas permeable
contact lenses or glasses."

I mean am I reading it wrong, or do you really just have to have perfect vision for most departments anymore?

Thats the first ive ever heard of it anywhere. Seems like a good way to lose alot of quality applicants.

I believe MOHP has the same standards and have seen them a few places before, I don't even object to having Lasik down the road, but having to get Lasik before even applying seems pretty rough.

Kinda wierd, my uncle works for Shelby County Sheriff's Dept. in TN and was shocked to hear about all of these restrictions here, said it was the first he ever heard of departments requiring you send yourself to the academy first, and have to have near perfect/perfect vision. Wierd.

I've never heard of that from LSPD and I'm pretty familiar w/the process.  I wouldnt let that stop you from applying at all...

My vision is around 20/50 and I wear glasses.  I don't legally need the glasses to drive, but it helps reading those tiny little road name signs.

Why? They generally can't hit what they're shooting at anyway.
