I am looking at front grips for my ar and was kind of curious as to what a lot of other shooters like and prefer. There is so many out there to choose from. Any input would be appreciated.

Magpul AFG works perfect for the style of shooting I use...more of a 3gun/Magpul Dynamics style. About any regular vertical grip can be used the same way, I just find the AFG to feel the most comfortable for me. Only downsides I've seen is there is no storage in them, they can block some rail covers on the sides, and there's always someone who accuses you of drinking the Magpul Koolaid.

For clarification are you talking about the fore stock or a vertical grip?

Fore stocks depend on what your going to use the rifle for. As for vertical grips I suppose it depends on if you have a rail mount or not.

I researched the AFG as I liked the look and the more streamlined design of it instead of the straight down VFG style.  But I read that the AFG was designed to be used a certain way and that turned me off.

My first choice is a short VFG so that it is out of the way when you are using a different position. I really like the looks and idea behind the Larue VFG. It is modular, so you can find what fits.  It is expensive though.

Right now I am using a GG&G VFG and it is longer than I like.

And as far as drinking koolaide drink all you want as long as it is the flavor you like.

I'm a big fan of Grip Pods.

I do have a grip-pod on one of my ARs but I do like the non-plastic stubby grips such as the Larue FUG and the Spikes VFG. I have the Spikes stubby grip on my 6.8 AR.

What is a fore stock? Is that like fore skin or AR-15 hand guards?

I do have an opinion on this.... Imagine that?

There is no excuse for a hundred dollar VFG... PERIOD...
For me there are many alternatives....

The Tango Down Stubby is good too, $80

The Tapco Stubby is what I landed on the $25 Stubby VFG....

Then in the company ammo sale I got a few of the new Weaver VFGs....

Much like the FUG it comes all apart and can be stubby or long or ???

Past that the TROY is a good piece of kit, my complaint is that it is aluminum... thus a conductor of heat...

My LAST choice would be the AFG...
I prefer the VFG to the AFG...
I have a simple system...

I have a magpul MOE VFG on my SBR.

Although I dont really drink the Magpul kooliad, the grip is solid, simple and was priced very reasonable.

And being polymer as opposed to aluminum, does not conduct heat.

I've been using a Tango down for years.. Don't think its a stubby, but thats good because I have a pretty big paw....

I want to say I paid like 45-50 bucks for it...  I also have the Magpull VFG...  Love the way it looks, not big on the way it feels...  I need to try it again and see if it gets better...

The VFG seems more comfortable to me...

You have to see what fits you...

It kinda depends how you use your VFG.

If you grab onto it wtih your entire hand, then a stubby obviously won't work.  If you grab it "high" as you would when using that hand as support to your firing hand on a pistol, then a stubby is almost too long.

They are ENTIRELY subjective as is asking "what's the best stock/grip/rail for my gun?"  It's your gun, you have to discover what works best for you.

That said, onmy guns I have a Troy aluminum stubby non-QD, a LaRue FUG in stubby mode, a Tapco non-QD stubby and a Weaver non-QD stubby.  Anyone wanna buy some "full length" adapters cheap?

I agree. I used to "grab the whole thing" until I found out using it more as a rest was actually better for me. I have 3 stubby's and 2 full length VFG's on my rifles, and a bipod on my long-ranger. I still hold the full length like the stubby's, as a stop.
