I am looking into becoming a NRA Range Safety Officer (to be used for Boy Scouts) and am looking around for any info available on classes locally (St. Louis area). I have found some info, but the prices for the classes kind of shocked me. I hope I just happened to find the most expensive instructor and can find something a bit more affordable. The local Boy Scout Troop (that my son will move into in another year) has a yearly shooting event but is losing their 2 current certified RSO's (required for the event). If I can find classes affordable enough, I and a co-leader or 2 would volunteer to step into the job.

Any info would help

You might check with August Busch range. They used to conduct RSO classes. That was when Tony Legg was the head of the Range there. Not sure if they are still doing it or not.

I think that Tony moved to Jeff City about 2 years ago, and the other NRA consoler had hart problems, haven’t seen an NRA course there in over 18 Months.

I assume you’re looking at http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx

You could join Benchrest and go through the training there, and it wouldn't cost anything to ask whether you could sit through the class as a non-member, just make sure the reason you need the training for Boy Scouts.

Call Scott Pieper. The phone number is on the web site.

PM me and we can discuss. I am a Chief RSO and the father of 3 scouts.

If you want to be come an NRA Rifle instructor I have a class in Feb., and if I have interest I can do aa shotgun class too.

FYI there is not a class currently scheduled at benchrest and the classes were not free.

Not free, but the cost is low enough unless there has been a change.
