Anybody up for an arfcom movie gathering? I was thinking about seeing it tonight or around lunch on friday, who's up for it?
Public Enemies PTK |

Johnny Depp nailed it. He IS John Dillinger in this flick. I think that Stephen Lang should have had a more substantial role.
The casting and cinematography on this flick was phenomenal. The movie should have been at least half an hour longer so that the story could have been more deeply developed. But, as a shoot em up action flick that doesn't insult the audience, it delivers. |

can't wait. hoping it doesnt want to make me get a thompson SMG afterwards as the ole wallet can't take another gun right now.
I am seeing it tonight at the new downtown AMC/Empire in one the Cinema Suites. Anyone been there? If not it is defiantly worth checking out. 20.00 gets you the movie ticket and 10.00 of pre-paid food/booze. Food/Drink Prices are not that bad, about average for movie theatres and they refill your cokes/popcorn throughout the show. For those who don't come downtown much, It is in the old Empire location and they did a really awesome job restoring/redesigning the space. On the tech side it is supposed to be one of the most advanced digital theatres in the US. The seats "rumble" along with the action on the screen (for Star Trek at least) Probably not something you would want to do for every movie, but if you dont' go much, or for a date/movie you are really excited about it I would say it is more than worth it. All and all I think one of the better entertainment values in town, especially downtown....check it out sometime |

I saw it Friday afternoon. I was going to wear my 1911-A1. But, that thing is big and heavy, so I just went with the CZ75.
Anyway, good flick. It's a Mann film, so basically Heat with pinstripe suits and Tommy Guns. Depp did a great job (when hasn't he?) and even though you know how it ends, it does a great job building up to it. |

Wow,
Interesting to see how many of you guys liked it. Heat is one of my favorite movies and I thought Public Enemies sucked!!!!! The only recent movie with acclaim that i found worse was the Jesse James movie. They ought to start an Oscar Category for trailer editors who lure the most unsuspecting customers into the theater expecting a great movie. Slow, poorly developed characters, and slow... Wish I'd saved my $16. |

Depp did a great job (when hasn't he?) Uuhh, Secret Window! I had that crappy movie figured out before it was halfway over. PursuitSS John Dillinger was betrayed by a woman dressed all in red. He was shot and killed as he was leaving a movie theater in Chicago. It took you halfway through the movie to figure that out?

Wish I'd saved my $16. I just returned from seeing it. I thought some of the camera angles sucked along with that fore mentioned camera shaking. I did not think the characters were poorly developed or that the overall movie was slow but then again I am familiar with this piece of American history. The fire fight scenes were rather dull and did not look like a Michael Mann directed film. In fact, most of the film looked like it was directed by someone other than Mann. Public Enemies really lacks that Michael Mann flair of old. Save your cash and watch it on cable. |

Saw it, thought it was not Mann's best efforts.
Depp was great, Bale was wooden and robotic, the pacing was far too slow and I felt the film dragged. It is the first movie I went to see recently in which people were getting up and leaving the theater before the credits started rolling. When the house lights finally came up it was me and like two other people left... everyone else got up and vamoosed before the movie was even truly "over". It also felt very repetitious. You can only see so many Mann-ish arty shots of car hoods and running boards before you say "enough with the car shots already!" I will however take this movie, with all its faults, above anything else showing right now. This movie is not "bad"... just not as good as it could have been. |
