What can you guys tell me about the second and third ring suburbs...out near Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights, St. Charles, etc? I know nothing about the area. Well, I've heard of East St. Louis...

How is Missouri and the St. Louis area overall? Taxes, guns, etc?

I know one of you guys has a nice cabin and some land somewhere in Missouri...I saw the pictures. Where should I look for my own secondary place like that, as well? Also, what is the scoop on hunting in Missouri?

Thanks.

Are you looking to move to the MO?

It's a possibility.  It's not for sure yet.

St. Charles is kind of far from St. Louis.  Cheaper homes, not really sure about the taxes.  Creve Coeur is nice, there are lots of nice suburbs in St. Louis.  Really depends on what you want to spend.  Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Manchester, Ellisville, Fenton are all nice. Actually there are plenty of nice suburbs around St. Louis.  The city is not so nice other than a few areas, they are trying to build new condos to bring people back into the city, but if you have a family the suburbs is your best bet. Probably a good idea to come and visit for a week and check out the different areas to see what you might prefer.  Gun laws are the same in all areas, you can have a CCW and recently we can now get SBR and suppressors.    I'm sure more people will chime in with the areas they say are good and to avoid.

How about full auto?

If it happens, I'd be working in the suburbs and probably living further out.  So, no real need to enter St. Louis proper.

Stay out of St Louis City, and far that part most of St Louis County ( both are solid blue political counties with typical blue county problems).  St Charles is very nice, much more conservitive, and not that far from Downtown St Louis (40 min with no traffic).  NFA is good to go,  but you need to have an FFL per State Law and a C&R will due.  LEO in St Charles will do sign offs with no problem. I have been working as a LEO in the area for a while, and if you want, IM me with questions and I will help you out.

Alot of people work in STL county and live in St. Charles county.  IF you PM me where you would be working I can give you a better idea.  There are parts of St. Charles county where you can get a home on 3 acres.  If you go 2 -3 hours outside the city, land gets relatively cheep.

As other have said the Gun laws are good.

If you're looking for land to build on out that way it seems to be getting tough to find unless you're willing to drive.  Not impossible though.  If you just want to move into a development farther out you should be good to go.

In general, St. Louis is like most other urban areas.  Some really nice places and some pretty crappy ones.  I grew up in Webster Groves (nice but expensive) and now live in South St. Louis County.  I'd move farther out to the south but I work just north of downtown St. Louis and I like the relatively short commute.  We are also really close to the wife's family which is important to her.  Lot's of great hunting and fishing.  The conservation department in MO is top notch.

That may be so.... I've had great experiences with the Sheriff Murphy of St.Louis City signing ALL my NFA forms.  His liaison, Major Lynch, stays in tune with the firearm laws and he answered all my suppressor questions before they went into effect.  That tells me he is either an enthusiast hinself or is great at his job.   I've had much better luck than some of my acquaintances who live in the county.

I live about 45 miles outside St Loius in Warren county. Cheaper taxes buy a couple hundred bucks a year and no smog check required to register your car. You can get a nice 3br 2ba house with a full basement on 5 acres for 250 ish. less if your willing to fix it up or live in a modular.

There is still some bright light in the City.  I should of mentioned Murphy as one of them.
