I wrote our legislators urging them to vote against this bill. Here is McCaskill's non-response,Basically it says we're too stupid to know whats good for us and she'll vote as she sees fit,or whatever will further her career. This shit is actually making me sick, seriously.Notice how she calls it gun safety legislation.
Mike Thank you for contacting me regarding gun safety. I appreciate hearing from you, and I welcome the chance to respond. Over the past year, a number of tragic shootings have occurred throughout the nation. As these incidents refocus national attention on the gun safety debate, we should strive to achieve common ground on the issue and we must take great care not to politicize the suffering of others. Protecting innocent victims while at the same time protecting the gun ownership rights of law-abiding citizens is obviously still a work in progress. As a former prosecutor, I think we must do a better job on background checks for court-determined, dangerous mental conditions at the time of all gun sales. Also, I think we should consider placing certain restrictions on assault weapons and closing the gun show loophole. However, it is important that any attempt to promote appropriate gun safety measures must not infringe upon law-abiding citizens’ right to own firearms or unduly burden the hunting and sportsmanship culture of Missouri. As your United States Senator, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind anytime Congress considers gun safety legislation. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future regarding other matters of interest or concern to you. All best, |

Just read it and I can’t explain how much it pisses me off! Here’s a link if anyone can’t find it:
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text Seriously, would something like this pass? No wonder everyone is freaking out, I might actually go to the DC March next year; that is if we’re even allowed to by then! |

I can believe that she sent that incredible piece of garbage back to you.
However, I think that you should be writing your representative first since this bill is in the House. It has been sent to the Subcomittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. Perhaps, writing the members of that subcommittee is appropriate also. Here's a link and a list of the members. ETA: If you go to the link page, you can click on each Rep and it will take you to their personal web page. http://judiciary.house.gov/about/subcrime.html Subcommittee on Crime Terrorism, and Homeland Security Membership Democrats Hon. Scott Chairman (D) Virginia, 3rd Hon. Pierluisi (D) Puerto Rico, Resident Commissioner Hon. Nadler (D) New York, 8th Hon. Lofgren (D) California, 16th Hon. Jackson Lee (D) Texas, 18th Hon. Waters (D) California, 35th Hon. Cohen (D) Tennessee, 9th Hon. Weiner (D) New York, 9th Hon. Wasserman Schultz (D) Florida, 20th Vacant Republicans Hon. Gohmert Ranking Member (R) Texas, 1st Hon. Poe (R) Texas, 2nd Hon. Goodlatte (R) Virginia, 6th Hon. Lungren (R) California, 3rd Hon. Forbes (R) Virginia, 4th Hon. Rooney (R) Florida, 16th |
