Go ck out this forum. .  I lurked around there a year or so ago when I was thinking of getting one.  I never did get one due to finances.  I've shot Duke's, and it is a lot of fun to shoot at the range, but I'm partial to my .45's, and other conventional calibers.

A friend of mine just bought one.  Can't shoot it at any of the indoor range, so he has to take it outside.  It's an interesting pistol.  Very light, and 20 rnd mags.  I'm curious to try it out soon.

Bidding on one right now, we will see.  The Bullethole in KS said they will allow it, which isn't too bad a drive for me.

I've shot a friends a couple times and its a smooth weapon. Either hold 20 in the factory mag or get the 10rnd extentions for the extra firepower. Both were comfortable in my XL hands.  Very fast follow-up shots with little to no recoil. With ammo running what it was @ the time I couldn't justify it. Today would be different if I wasn't trying to keep it to only 5 pistol calibers to keep in stock, as it can be found for not much more than most HP ammo is going for.

Try 1 if you can and see if you like it.

seriously?  Cause, that's where my friend got his, and they said no to shooting it there, and he knows them pretty good....interesting.

I've shot my 5.7 pistol and my P90 at crossfire.  The pistol is light weight and easy to shoot.  Feels like you are shooting a light weight 22 mag.

With the 30 rnd mags with a tactical light/laser and it is like you are carrying a lightweight assualt weapon in a pistol size package.  Bad guy with a BP vest, no problem.  Add a SWR Spectre and you have a complete package.

I have one.  Very little recoil to speak of, functions flawlessly, and I like the 20 round mags.  Accurate out to 100 yards without changing your sight picture since the round is doing more than 2,000 fps out of a pistol.  Inherent accuracy of the round and pistol is excellent.

I'm not sure what to think of the caliber, as I've never shot anything larger than a possum with mine.  Sure, it killed that possum deader than hell in a big hurry, and inspecting the wound channel was pretty cool, but that's hardly conclusive evidence.  There is a pile of anectodal evidence for and against the effectiveness of the round, and most of it just serves to add to the controversy.

Some say its just a glorified .22 magnum, but on the other hand some members of congress drafted legislation banning the ammo from civilian sale because it was too deadly for civilians, and FN had to discontinue sales of the "AP" ammo to civvies and come up with new loadings which they labeled as "hunting" and "lead free" and such.  So that makes it even more complicated.  Is the new stuff "neutered" for civilians, or did FN just engage in some careful and timely marketing to appease the politicians?

Even with the new civvy legal ammo, I've personally seen the "lead free" loading go right through a level II soft armor vest every time–– I was shooting the gun when it happened.  So I tend to think of the round as less of a glorified .22 mag, and more of a "honey I shrunk the 5.56 till it fit in my pistol".

This vid has some footage of the Five Seven in action at Targetmaster's in Columbia.

Hmm maybe we should get an armor panel and try some 22 Mag and 5.7 side by side to see what it does. May surprise ya!

I just don't see adding a caliber to my collection and an expensive one at that.
I have shot Duke's 5.7 and it feels nice, very light the ergonomics are shit (location of the safety, etc) BUT that is a training issue, practice with it and it would eventually Pavlov you. Repetition you know. Having shot the neutered ammo at a chunk of steel and slamming an entire mag into it and not really making a statement... I don't know.
I have shot Possums with 22... Killed em deadern hell.
I LIKE the gun, and I would like to have one but unless I had a PS90 to go along side it I don't believe I would be willing to buy the pistol only. As well I would rather have a P90 instead of the PS but that aint gonna happen...

On how about a p90 in 9mm?? I would buy that!

You can shoot them at Total Range up in St. Joe.

Duke and I shot his at Cross Fire in Independence.  I think most ranges will allow you to shoot them since the bullet is so light.  Maybe they have changed things at Cross Fire, but this last summer Lloyd was letting people shoot them.  He won't let me shoot the Wolf ammo through my CZ 82, but the FN 5.7 was good to go.

ARINKCMO - I called bullethole while I was bidding on the gun and one of the guys there stated 5.7 ammo was perfectly fine and that they used to have some five seven guns which they sold out of, but still allow it to be shot.

Interesting.  I'll pass it along to him, they told him flat out No.  Like I said, they know him well there.  Kind of like Cheers when Norm walks in actually.  Maybe they're just giving him shit or something.
