can any of you guys recommend a good, trustworthy, reasonably priced safe mover in the KC area?  need somebody who is discreet and won't freak out over crap like a Barrett or a pallet of ammo.

How far does it have to go?  Any obstacles such as stairs, doorways, etc?

A kindly fellow board member helped me move one across town and down a narrow flight of stairs.  THAT was an engineering feat!  There was the obligatory, but minimal, property damage.  It cost me some beer & fajitas.

In the immortal words of Stevie Wonder, "That's what friends are for".

Hmmm Clarification
Need a Safe, Mover. or Need a, Safe Mover.

Move your guns yourself, don't trust anyone to move them for you.
Move ammo yourself, Same as above.

Oh and as to Eric's Comments any damage done to anything was entirely his fault...

I'm in too.  No need to pay anyone.  Give us the specs:  approx weight of safe? stairs?, corners? If the safe is over 750lbs, a fridge dolly can be rented for 25.00 or so...

Gun Safe Moving 101.......

I learned how to move gun safes last year at this time when I purchased a 59x30x27 safe that weighed over 750 lbs.

I have a standard staircase going down to a finished basement.  With a furniture dolly or hydraulic stair climber, there's big guys on both sides plus the extra weight of the equipment.  So I would be putting over 1200 lbs on my stairs––too much.  If you have a regular basement, reinforce the stairs before bringing that much weight down them.

I looked into movers––both commercial and bums on craigslist.  I ran into the same problems.  The pro's were going to be $400+, but insured.  The bums would be cheaper, but if they broke something or were casing my house, I'm out a lot more.  If either fell through the stairs or had the safe crush them, I'm getting sued.

The deal breaker was that my stairs are 90 degrees to a hallway.  There was no way I could swing the safe to get it lined up with the stairs.  It wouldn't fit.  Plus I didn't want to bring a dolly with their small wheels across my hardwood floors.

The answer........BOBCAT.  I have a [semi] walkout basement.  I live on the side of a cliff and sliding door goes out onto a deck. I had to remove the railing from the deck, but I was able to set the safe and pallet onto a furniture dolly and strap it down.  I had built a ramp with fences to get it through the door, over the jamb, and across a tile landing without damaging anything.  It was a Bobcat MiniTrack with forks and a trailer all for a half day: $185.

I've moved 200-300 lbs pinball machines up and down stairs before and it's a BITCH.  I can't imagine doing it with something 2-3 times the weight and so bulky.  If you have to do stairs, do yourself a big favor and rent a hydraulic stair climber.  Find a vending machine guy and pay him to rent it over the weekend if you have to.  Trust me, you will scare the shit out of yourself with an appliance dolly.  You can remove the safe door if you have to, but it's not recommended, and you can easily damage the fireproofing, lock/handle, etc. if you're not super careful.

If none of these options work for you.......put it on the main floor, get two smaller (closet size) safes, or get the Zanotti modular safe.

I agree.  My TV is almost 300lbs(not trying to brag, it's just big and heavy) and I only had to take it down a half flight of stairs.  I keep telling the wife that if we move the TV stays with the townhouse.  She thinks I'm joking.

BTW, we had to go down the flight.  I don't even want to think what going up would be like.

If the damn thing ever quits(had it 4 years now, and only one problem 3 years ago), I'll just use a sawzall to cut it into manageble bits and haul it to the community dumpster.

No, 56"JVC Goliath.

The silver part on the bottom is at least 2 feet from floor to the screen.  Might give you an idea of size.

BTW, that picture's over 4 years old.  He can shoot it much easier now.

Here's another option: SNAPSAFE TITAN

The safe is shipped in componets and assembly takes about 30 minutes.  Appears to be decent quality and shipping cost is much less than standard safes.

My safe is getting full and instead of hauling another big one down the steps to the basement (no walk-out), I'm considering one of these for a small closet on the main floor.  It will be easy to disassemble and take with me when I move.

Here's a video to demonstrate how they go together.

Also MidSouth Shooters Supply was offering free shipping on this item but their web site had some confusing information on pricing.  I sen them an e-mail for clarification.  The manufacturers web site has the safe for $849 plus $99 for shipping.

EDIT:  12/5 update.  I recevied a response from MidSouth on the current cost of the Titan safe and it's $899 with shipping included.
