I recently moved here for college. I was up in St. Louis and i just wanna see how many arfcommers are actually in this city! Seems like most are KC or STL |
Cool! I'm guessing you're probably about the same age as my Son(he'll be 20 next month). That was his game plan, but the little s**t just dropped out of OTC . Says he might try it again in a year. Hope he does! Good luck hope you enjoy our town.Rick SGF, Mo. |
Ahh, I remember those days (daze). Several friends & I went into a gun store, one bought a Ruger GP100 and one bought a Ruger P85 in 9mm. I looked the salesman in the eyes and asked "what's bigger than 9mm?" |

I grew up around Wright County and Mountain Grove, and my wife is from Wright County, too. Her folks live in Lebanon now, so we get down "every oncet in a while". My folks have passed away, so I just visit my uncles down there now. My oldest kid was considering coming to Springfield for school, but I think she's headed elsewhere now. On a related topic, we really need to have a shoot somewhere. |
At least you won't have the 'PTA Surprise' on your first handgun purchase. I bought my first gun at 21 (Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag) and was confused when they asked for the PTA. More confusion when I was told I had to go to the Sheriff's dept to get it! Fortunately, I was in Clay Co at the time, so a ten minute wait, and I had the permit. Just delayed my gun purchase a few hours. I would have been really confused if it was going to be a 3-7 day wait like some of the counties. As it was, it almost made me reconsider buying a handgun in the first place. Seemed like way too much big brother paperwork and monitoring for a 'simple' purchase. (It was!!) So glad that stupid law is off the books now! Oh, I don't live in Springfield.

Several of us shoot USPSA matches every first Saturday at a club in Mt Home, ARK and every first Sunday at COPS near Rolla. COPS has a Steel Match the 3rd Sat of the month. Both clubs also have monthly matches for IDPA, as does a club in Berryville, ARK. There are monthly (except winter) NRA Action Pistol (Bianchi) matches at Billings, MO. There is a 2 gun (rifle/pistol) match at the COPS range Saturday, Nov 1 in place of the Sunday USPSA pistol match. Bear Creek Tactical near Stockton has monthly matches and will be starting 3 gun and IDPA if not already. There are venues to shoot. Now for ARF.com folks to have a get together shoot....might be more of a problem securing a suitable range. Craig |
I'm thinking more along the lines of our early MODCC shoots, although I think fun matches should be included. I sponsored a Missouri Madness match at Finger Lakes that was well recieved. This is my version of a Lord Roberts match, except it's for teams. Every team has say 2 to 4 shooters. Each team gets one target. All teams and shooters fire simultaneously for 60 seconds. The winning team has the largest number of hits in the aiming bull. I used reduced course centers for 100 yard offhand slow fire matches; this is a pretty good compromise size since we permitted all sights and any position. If nothing else, it makes a lot of racket. What I've been mulling is a medley shoot with pistols, mid range rifle, maybe shorter range "battle field pickup" rifle, .22 RF, and shotgun. Keep the number of rounds required small and the targets simple, in particular use swingers where possible, so there's plenty of time to shoot without a rush. Then barbeque. |

Welcome to the area! I'm located in Marshfield, about 20ish minutes east of Springfield. We definitely need to have a meet/shoot, just doesn't seem to be many places to choose from around here. I'm not 100% sure if I'll be attending the show this weekend, probably won't if my fiance has to work. Bringing her along betters my chances of going home with another firearm.
I had you pinned around my age for some reason. Your son is only 3 years younger than I am. |
