I just tried this on another forum and it didn't go over too well.

DO NOT insult me or my friends (to be mentioned).  I am not stupid.

At my CCW class several months ago my instructor stated that legally we needed to register all of our firearms in the county that we live in. (Vernon County btw)  Shortly after I asked an LEO buddy of mine about it and he said SOMETHING LIKE "I think you're supposed to but no one enforces it..........I don't want the county knowing what guns I have"

I don't remember if this was a local thing or state law or what.  Every thing that I could find BEFORE AND AFTER contradicts this.  Does anyone know where this comes from.

ETA

If this is a case where "these idiots need to stay current with new laws" then that would imply that there WAS a law but now there is not.  In this case someone should be able to cite the law and when it was done away with.

Thank you.

Depending on how long ago you took your CCW course, they may have been talking about the PTA or permit to acquire. It was required like a permission slip from local law enforcement before you could buy a concealable firearm. Long arms did not require one. The law has been repealed and the PTA is no longer required. It seemed like registration because the Sheriff had the make model and serial number of your new handgun listed on the form. And you had to pay $10 every time you bought one. Neighbors selling a gun to one another often did not know about it or go through this process and many guns changed hands which might be what your LEO friend meant about "enforcing it".

In Missouri, there is no law requiring registration of any common guns (NFA guns are a different story but that is Federal). A county cannot pass a law to do so over state law.

Your response is condescending.  This is not what I was asking for.  I have my MO CCW permit, why would I google something I didn't ask about.......go fuck yourself.  And next time just don't post if you can't add anything.

hmmm....

If you found information that contradicts this from reputable sources then you have your answer.
But to answer your question, You do not have to register any handgun or long rifle.  In fact, you never registered anything to begin with, you just had to ask permission to aquire a handgun and they just happened to keep that permission slip forever.  But, that law is gone and dead.

By the way, V188 was directing you to this site, Missouri Concealed Carry  Which I have linked for your viewing pleasure.

Yes, I know I am being condensending, and I will go F-myself when ever I get around to it.

Obama is a reputable source.......am I to believe he doesn't want to take my guns?

I didn't mistake a process for registering my guns.  I have to assume that my CCW instructor did not either.  This was obviously a dumb idea I had and I will just call my CCW instructor next wee and ask him wtf he was talking about.

thanks but this not a question regarding concealed carry.  It just happened to be at a CCW class and a CCW instructor that told me this.  Maybe this is causing all of the missunderstanding tonight.

Personally, I live by "believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear"

That means that I try to verify using two sources.  The written law is the best source you can have and then missouricarry.com or the link I provided above.

I agree though, a CCW instructor should be a reputable source, but should know the laws and the history behind them with certainty.  They have been changing the last few years and he should be keeping up with them considering he is still teaching a course.

By the way, making personal attacks will not get you very far at all on this board, even if the response is not what you want to hear.

From Missouricarry.com

Permit To Acquire (a concealable weapon).  A permit required to purchase a handgun in Missouri, obtained through the Sheriff's department of the county in which you reside.  The requirement for this permit has been eliminated as of August 28, 2007 with the passage of SB62 by the 94th General Assembly.

are my CCW instructor and an LEO to not be considered reputable sources? Apparently they are not when it comes to current firearms law in MO.
I am trying to definitively confirm something without just taking someones word for it.

If you know the answer, why ask the question? If you don't know the answer, why argue with those who respond? If this is how you acted on the other board, that may be why it "didn't end well."

Hero,

I see that you are new to this board. So, let me give you a wee bit of advice. Keep a civil tounge and people will be civil with you. It appears that you have stumbled into this forum and you are not off to a good start. As someone else has already pointed out, maybe your lack of being civil might be the reason your other attempts have not gone so well.

So, have you gone looking at the links? Or are you just one ignorant bastard that wants to stir up a hornets nest?

As far as I know, you do not need to register your hand gun. My instructor back in Aug of this year did not mention the need to register my hand gun, and He is an instructor for several police depts. Besides being a police officer himself.

So, why dont you curb your tounge before matters have to be taken.

Hero, ease up on the personal "F-you" attacks.  It is no wonder "it did not go well" for you in the past.  You entered the room swinging and expected folks to like you?  It simply does not work like that.  Please adjust your ways or go about your way.

To put it in easy layman's terms, there ain't no gun registration in Missouri.  And you do not have to "register" any gun you may or may not CCW.  In other words, according to MO law, you can carry anything that you can legally own and conceal, be it something that you've had forever or that you'll buy next year.

Best of luck to you.

BTW, I are stupid sometimes.
