I was at my grandparents and my grandfather was telling me about a Australian rifle from WWII that he had. He said it was missing the magazine and he didn’t even remember what caliber or when he had acquired it. So I was looking it over and immediately noticed it was Enfield variant with all the British markings on it but it had a stamp under the arsenal mark that was the star from the Australian flag. He told me to take it YAY! so I get it home and start the Google search its a Australian Enfield Sporter made at the Lithgow Arsenal so it has the longer barrel which was throwing me off. It has a 2000 yard site on it which made me laugh a little, pretty optimistic I think. Really a pretty gun though I just need to get a mag for it. He also pulled out a black powder rifle from the civil war that had been passed down he remembered his grandfather having it. It was a Springfield rifle it is in pretty good condition complete with bayonet. Really a neat feeling to hold something in your hands that took part in War on American soil. I am hoping he sends that one home with me as well someday. |
why shoot corrosive ammo on a rifle that you want to pass on just reload |
POF .303 is not good to go for various reasons. Corrosive, unreliable, hangfires, etc... |

Oops, I didn't know that BaNo. This stuff looks better, but more expensive as well. www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Prvi_Partizan_.303Brit_150grn_SP.html |
Apparently you don't know anyone who's tried to shoot it. People even joke that POF stands for Pakistani Order of the Flintlock, due to the serious hangfires. And it is infact corrosive. |
I knew of the corrosive part, but hadn't heard, or experienced the latter two symptoms. And yes, I have shot hundreds of rounds of it, mostly, so far, of 60's vintage. |
Yeah, I have a couple boxes of it. Hangfires are on the order of SECONDS. Like 2-5 seconds! I pulled a couple bullets, and dumped the powder out...it comes out more like wet spaghetti noodles....horrible, dangerous crap. |

+1 Just what I was thinking Poly. From the description of spaghetti noodles. |
