I didn't want to jack the other thread so i will start my own. We are looking to get an ffl. So far we have the fingerprint cards and ATF form 7. I just have a couple questions. My house is in residential zoning so can I run a strictly internet based gun shop from my house? Do you have to have a seperate safe for the guns owned by the shop or can they intermix with your personal collection? I plan to order the guns as they get ordered with the exception being ar lowers I plan to stock them. Any issues about zoning or all that I should be concerned with? |

I recently started a similar topic. Since then I have been doing a lot of asking around and snooping. It appears that your question is all based off the laws and rules of your township/city. My city will allow me to conduct business and issue a business license for a home based business out of my residence. I am required to allow the code enforcement officer to do a brief inspection. I have already talked to him and he was very informative. He is simply making sure the structure is safe. He asked to look at the breaker box mainly. Next is contacting my home insurance company. If all goes well there, then I going to get my EIN and sent in the FFL app. Good luck! ~Ed |
Right but he deals with Dealers and also by appointment and does not have to worry with a Business license and Zoning... |
He also had his before the ATF got all anti-"kitchentable dealers". He did have a functioning store front at one time aswell. |

hmmmmmmm I need to do a bit more research but My Dad has a biz license for my home adress. www.grassrootspub.com so if the city let us have a license for that biz i doubt they will have an issue with this one. I don't have an issue doing the "by app" biz hours. I plan to get a table at the local gun shows and even if I don't have much product at the show people could still order and this would get around what somebody said earlier about the ATF not liking only online dealers. how long does it take to get the OK? |
Not being a stick in the mud, but the ATF is not real happy about Gunshow only dealers either, in fact their online FAQ specifically forbids Gunshow Only dealers. So a Business license is a must I am affraid, and Zoning etc. ATF will most likely want to do a premise inspection prior to issuing the license too. A Separate Safe would certainly not hurt anything either. Some Form of "Secure Storage" and their standards are not terribly high on that either. Having a Biz Lic for an online Publisher "Grassrootspub.com" is far different in the eyes of a lot of municipalities than a Gun Shop. Keep that in mind as well, and Good luck to you, going to gunshows to "Take Orders" sure is going to be an eye opener for ya! Customers are Funny... |
My agent told me seperate storage was a must. He didnt want my shop guns and personal guns mixed. Ive heard the same from other dealers also. |
