What do you guys think of the FNPs? I'm looking to pick one up, but I'm having trouble finding a lot of information/reviews.

I'm wanting the SA/DA model in .40, but would definitely consider a 9mm if the price was right.

Please feel free to post any comments, opinions, reviews, stories.....whatever.

Also to all the FFL's out there, what can you get me one for? You can IM me if you prefer.

Thanks fellas.

We've been carrying them for awhile.  They feel good and come with 2 backstraps to customize for fit.  FN has done everyone a favor by supplying each pistol with 3 mags.  All pistols are SST, some have a natural finish and some are blackened.  They shoot very well and I especially like the omission of a safety.

Jeff

BTW, price is $495--

well i can answer this, there the best deal going and with the free blade tech stuff from Fn you cant go wrong if your right handed.

it is my main carry pistol, they only complaint is mag cost. there too much even at dealers but its right in line with what p99 mags cost but i wish they would drop below 26 bucks. but then again i am a mag whore. i want at least 15 for each gun i own.

it has replaced all my pistols except my p99 and bobtail 45. thats saying allot i had allot of pistols i think everybody hear can swear to that. kind of funny and opening the safe and only seeing 4 guns.

As soon as CMMG gets the FDE fnp in i want to talk to them about getting another in 9mm i want a flat dark earth one  bad.

i would not get rid of mine for anything.

I saw one fail at a range, due to that I did not get to shoot it.  It did feed good in my hand, however.  I would be interested in shooting one and possibly picking one up in the future.

It has been a while, but IIRC the hammer would fire and stop at what would be the half-cock position on a 1911.  Im not sure if the slide would function either.  We couldnt figure it out, I guess the guy took it back to his dealer to send it in.  I havent seen him since.

I visited fnforum.net and found a lot a bad reviews like:

weak springs, slide failing to lock back, FTFs.

It seems as though the .40 version is not as reliable as the 9mm, however I saw people having probs. with the 9mm as well.

Still havent made a decison yet. I'll just have to keep reading.

Do you shoot 1911s?  If you do, you'll hate the DA/SA version of this gun, for one reason-- the decocker is easy to depress and located exactly in the same place as the thumb safety on a 1911.

I tried shooting DBAR's FNP and I was decocking the gun by accident multiple times per magazine, because of my "thumb over thumb" IDPA-style 1911 grip.  I just couldn't hold the gun in a way that wouldn't trip the decocker.

I'm sure I wouldn't have that problem with the SAO version of the gun, but meh, the FNP won't do anything that my P226R doesn't already do just as well.

Duke, I read about that exact problem in an old guns and ammo review I found on the net.

I've never owned a 1911, but I'm sure it still could be a problem.

Alright here is what I know about mine, I have at least 2600rds through it with no failures.  I shoot well at the bullet hole ispc thing they have on Fridays with it.  The mags drop free but, if the gun is at an angle while you hit the mag release it may or may not drop because you pressed the button to quickly. If I just hold my pistol correctly in a reload Im golden, I had alot of trouble with the three gun match shooting this pistol but I blame it on the sights and alot on me and my pistol problems/habits.  I am shooting great groups with it now, and like I said shooting double alphas with it seem to be pretty easy.  I am going to a g34 and a g19 but I don't think I will sell my fnp 9, mechanically I don't have one complaint its rock solid.  Big dots would benefit the gun alot I think. I think I might give it to my girl friend.

I've had both the 9 and the 40 and sold the 9 but kept the 40.  They were both great shooters, decent accuracy and I've not had the decocking issue others have but maybe I just don't utilize a good hold :)  As far as function I haven't had an issue with either using reloads or factory ammo with all different bullet types.

Edit: FWIW I paid less than 400 for each of mine barely used.

My experience exactly.  You might try looking at the FNP 45 when it comes out.  The decocker looks much more like the one on the HK USP.

Love my FNP9mm it shoots great and once I trained my thumb to stay away from the decocker (as I needed to do with my Beretta 92) it was no longer a problem. I have never had a problem with mine that was not caused by my right thumb

I really liked the feel of the gun but when Duke and I went out shooting my FNP9 DA/SA, I decocked the gun after every shoot...so it was long DA pulls on every shot.  It is hard to change how you shoot a gun after all these years of shooting 1911's with my thumb riding high on the safety for maximum control of the gun.

There's a thread up now on THR about a guy whose FNP-9 trigger housing broke, and when he got the replacement, it broke before he even fired it.
