Independence MO 815a, Noland and I-70.  Noland road is 4 lanes, 2 northbound and 2 southbound w/a small curb based median seperating the lanes where the story goes as follows:

I was heading to Truman High School to Referee a Varsity soccer game and turned off of I-70 onto Northbound Noland Road.  I'm now at the next stoplight (next to Chucky Cheese/Sheridans, etc) facing northbound.  2 police cars and one police motorcycle come out of the strip mall on the right and head northbound, all w/lights and sirens, I proceed through the light and am approx 100yrds behind them.  All 3 of them do "bad ass" u-turn w/plenty of fishtailing and tire tracks, etc and immediately head southbound.  I am now in the inside lane of the 2 northbound lanes, and I am now stopped, unsure of where they are going or what is happening.......

Suddenly, I notice the only other car that is southbound as it heads towards me..... The rest is a blur and took a while to comprehend:

The car hits the median and attempts to jump the median to "head on" me (I'm stationary and pretty helpless w/a car also stopped to my right.  As the car passes me, I notice an elderly female driver, w/a male wrestling w/her, while she's driving.  As they pass me, I'm now watching this in my rearview mirror, as I see what appears to be a small kid standing up in the back seat trying to assist "his grandma??".  I'm not positive that there was a kid in the car but I remember "seeing" one...

Granted, at first, this looked like an elderly woman who panicked and temporarily lost control of her vehicle due to the LEO's rapidly approaching her, but it turns out, the male "passenger" had actually carjacked the lady.  She continued on for another 1/2 block and stopped/wrecked at the Sheridans intersection.  The police were at the vehicle b4 it even settled and the carjacker was quickly removed.

I'm unsure if the 3 cops were waiting for the car, or happened to get the call as the car approached them but it happened VERY QUICKLY.

And yes, all if the "what if" scenarios have ran through my mind all day.

This reminded me of the "Jake Robel" incident a few years ago, that ended basically at the same intersection, granted this one ended better.

Damn man glad you're ok and I hope the old lady can sleep tonight. That's got to be a helpless feeling. The last thing anyone would expect is a jackin on a Saturday morning.

That whole area is bad.  I work a few miles west of there, and it's even worse.

Glad your OK.  Hope you were ready in case he decided to move to your car.

The hood is moving closer all the time.  We all need to be prepared.

Here's the very brief news ad:

Two arrested in attempted carjacking
A car chase and attempted carjacking in Independence concluded this morning with two people in custody and two others being sought.

While officers were pursuing the vehicle just after 8 a.m., the driver jumped out and carjacked a second vehicle by climbing through the window. The chase quickly ended near at the intersection of 39th Street and Noland Road. Police were still investigating Saturday and no further details were available.

Yep, all the "what if's" include things like:

Me walking up to help the lady/couple after what looks like a simple car accident.
Them wrecking and him trying to locate another vehicle (mine)
Him trying to enter mine/someone elses car w/no warning (no cops present, no visual warning to any trouble, prior to him at my door, etc).
the list goes on........

Since then, I've been rethinking some sort of car holster.  Drawing from the IWB in the 4-5 o'clock position while wearing a seatbelt may not be the quickest option.

Scott, the one thing crossdraw holsters are good for is drawing while seated in a vehicle.  YMMV

Before CCW was legal, I used to just drive with the loaded pistol on my lap, I'm assuming this is still legal, but if I had ever needed it it was right there, "My bad, this looks just like my cousin's car".....
