Ahhh. My first real build. (the AR doesn't count. Its as easy as a lego toy) I finally finished the assembly on my AK project. Still need to refinish it, but I like it. I used to be one of those people that said "Its just an AK" Talk about a wake up call. I definetly have a new understanding. I plan to test fire and sight it in tomorrow afternoon and bring it to the shoot on the 16th.

edit to add: 7 compliance parts are reciever (1), G2 trigger group (3), front handguards (1), pistol grip (1), and US slant break (1).

I was really thinking either moly or duracoat over a park job. Still undecided on the finish.

I guess that means i have to get off my ass and get my airbrush setup so we can duracoat it then.

WOW I had a minor problem with the trigger sear dragging on the hammer, but now it runs like a champ.

Its official. Its a new bump-O-matic.

Looks great Rob.

Sapper, I think he ought to let you put a Pink krylon job on it.  J/K

I would jump in and get her one of those Kalishna-kitty t-shirts if they are still available.    But only if you go with the pink...

Looks good!  If you don't mind, how much money do you have in it?  I've though about getting an Ak eventually and see parts kits for pretty cheap and am wondering if it would be cheaper to build one (like it is for some AR15's) than it would be to buy an 'assembled' one?

Here ya go Rob, my very feeble attempt at making your AK pink in paint lol.

Bear with me here. Pretend I'm a gun makover artist. But I'm not gay. No.

1st, I would add a side rail, so you can slap a Kobra or one of the new EOtechs + weaver mount on there.

Ok but I would do the K-var green furniture set, and then duracoat all the rest of the gun with the woodland digital. That would look SO COOL!!!!

(It looks great, I like it! For some reason the image of the gun I just described popped into my head and I thought "man, that would be a cool rifle!")

Recevier=$70
Romy kit=$99
G2 trigger=$30
front handguards=$10
pistol grip=$20
US slant break=$9
rivet kit=$10

Tools I had to build/buy to complete it were about that much again, so if you are just looking to do one cheap, I would recommend buying one.

The satisfaction of building your own AK = PRICELESS

What tools did you need?

12 ton press (harbor freight $85), 24" bold cutter (made rivet squeezer)(harbor freight $9), used a old gear puller to remove the barrel, many drill bits for drilling out old rivets(would have helped if my drill press geared down slower), need a grinder to make the rivet squeezer, made a trigger guard rivet smasher, made bucking plates to crush rear trunion rivets. Also help from Sapper85 when I broke the retainer on my vise.
