Dear Mr. HellioN:

Thank you for contacting me about S. 1034, the
reauthorization of the semi-auto weapons ban.  I appreciate the
time you have taken to share your views with me, and I welcome
the opportunity to respond.

As you know, the initial ban was initiated and passed in
1994 under the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act
of 1994.  That Act included provisions amending the Gun Control
Act to make it a federal crime for a private individual to possess or
transfer an "assault weapon" manufactured after that date.  The law
is scheduled to expire on Sept. 13, 2004.

I opposed the ban when I was in the House and still do.
Limiting the rights of honest, law-abiding citizens to own and
carry firearms increases rather than decreases violent crime.  In
addition, the ban outlaws some of the most commonly used
sporting and recreational firearms.  It hasn't and won't work to
make people safer, and it should be allowed to sunset.

Again, thank you for contacting me.  If I may be of further
assistance, please don't hesitate to call or write.

Talking about letting AWB to sunset with Jim Talent is like preaching to the choir.  He is a pro-2nd thru and thru.  One of my bosses knows Jim personally, and there is no doubt where he stands when it comes to the 2nd Ammendment.

If the state legislature was on fire, I'd make sure Talent got out alive, and then sit in a couple of lawn chairs, pop open a couple of beers, and watch the rest of the place burn down.

Yeah, I wrote both Bond and Talent but your correct.  For now it's preachin to the choir.  Both have opposed it all along, so I don't expect to see them fall all over themselves to vote for it this time.

We should invite Talent to MODCC after the ban sunsets.  No media allowed.

Good to hear. Maybe preaching to the choir, but still good to hear from them on the subject.

Ron, has Talent posted here before? If so I missed it. That would be cool to have Talent out!

As far as Bond though, IIRC he voted for the AWB to begin with (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

I'ved emailed and written him a few times. I got a letter back basicly saying how they respect law abiding citizens, but feel the need to pass laws to protect us as well (or something to that effect). It was pretty wishy washy, and didn't seem nearly as anti AWB as I'd have thought.

Anyone have any other info from Bond that would clarify his stance on the subject?
