| Anyone around Birmingham do Engraving? |
|
Apparently these guys do it in B'ham.

Look at Tar Heel State Firearms in the Charlotte area. They do excellent work at a decent price and fast turnaround. Some of the big boys have weeks worth of waiting. http://tarheelstatefirearms.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=57_111 |

Identmarking.com is your best bet for NFA engraving. They are not in state but the work is grade A. Take my advice don't do NFA engraving in state. I'll respectfully disagree with you. I've used Ident several times in the past and they do fine work, the price is fair, and the turnaround was reasonable the last time I used them. No complaints there. My disagreement is entirely with the part in red above. Mr. Bowman does just as good work, is a nice guy to deal with, you can discuss options with him on the phone or FTF, and if you NEED one done quickly he can probably accommodate you. Just not seeing the downside that you are... but feel free to expound. |

In my experience I have had two different engravers in the Birmingham area engrave 4 of my SBR's and both engravers were mistakes that I will not repeat. My advice is from my experiences with in state engraves. I am not sure who Mr Bowman is? |

Sounds to me like you had a bad experience with two specific engravers in the B'ham area, not "in-state engraving/engravers" in general. Big difference. Mr. Bowman is in Huntsville and does great work, as I described above. Nice guy, too. He does all kinds of engraving, not just firearms... in fact, I suspect that firearms is a very small percentage of his business, but he does hold an FFL and knows all the ins and outs. http://www.bowmansent.com/index.php/engraving/34-gun |

He engraved my last SBR on the bottom of the trigger guard (It's a billet lower with Trigger Guard as part of the receiver). He does excellent work and has a FFL. |

One took almost 5 months to get my guns back/ engraving was pretty bad too and the other did a royal job of making granny sized reading font on my lowers. I would not say in state and Birmingham are to different because Birmingham is in state |

If you don't mind sending it off I've used these guys.
http://www.molonlabeengraving.com/index.html Great work and turn around time. I've used Ident in the past and they do good work but it was like a 4 week turn around. |

So I got the engraving done at Quality Trophy in Trussville and I've got to say the total experience was top notch. I called first to see if he would do the work and he explained that he would and that he had done this type of engraving many times before. He quoted me a price of $35 and a one day turn around time.
Everything was spot on and the engraving looked great. He uses an old fashioned rotary engraver instead of the new fiber laser engravers so he's limited to the side of the mag well for placement. That might deter some people but it didn't bother me. I am very happy and will definitely do business with him again. |
