Being from the communist country north of America, spending time in your fair state was a pleasure. I brought my daughter back to MMI for school and spent a couple days bumming around with her. Visited shops in the Tuscaloosa area and partook of the local eateries. Everyone was great and sympathetic to my unfortunate residential status.
I must say that Selma was a third world shithole but I was comforted by my travel companion. Anyway, thank you good Sirs. |

Selma sucks. 15 minutes in any direction from Selma is completely different from Selma. Next time down YOU MUST go to Orange Beach/Gulf shores. Where'd you eat in Titletown? |

Yeah saw the posters, hopefully it stays off campus. |

Glad you enjoyed it down here. Let us know you're coming down beforehand and we'll arrange a lunch or range session. Will be back down May 4th, looking forward to some Dreamland and Rama Jama again. Rama Jama has good burgers. I worked there while I was in school. Good times. |

Selma is the armpit of Alabama. I and a few others on here have spent a portion of our lives in sunny Selma. 24 weeks worth and the occasional trip for classes that range from a day to a couple of weeks generally is enough to remind me that I despise 99% of that area. Smell even stays in your clothes for a few days if you stay overnight. Doesn't matter when you go, it always sucks. |

| I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip. If you can make it down to the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area, it's worth the time. On the northeastern part of the state you'll find Little River Canyon. That's where Baer Grylls was in a rather laughable episode of Man vs. Wild. Selma is a bag of ass. Like Moonjumper, I've been there more times that I care to think about. |

Just thought that you might want to know:
TB outbreak reported in west Alabama town of Marion; 3 dead MARION, Ala. (AP) — State health officials say three people are dead amid a tuberculosis outbreak in the west Alabama town of Marion. Well, the program at Marion is very good, all sponsored cadets have received their appointments to West Point. My daughter and her friends will be reporting June 27th for Beast. I'll be in Marion May 4-6 for graduation and such. You really need to make time to head down th Gulf Shores/ Orange Beach. You won't regret it. |

That's always the recurring statement when Selma comes up. I spent three days there last week and get to go spend 3 more days there next week. At least our new digs are nice. Chow still sucks though. Quoted:

Oh and Selma does suck. That's always the recurring statement when Selma comes up. I spent three days there last week and get to go spend 3 more days there next week. At least our new digs are nice. Chow still sucks though. I went to college at Wallace in Selma. Best part of it is seeing it in the rearview mirror. |

I now will drive around the entire town if I MUST travel that way. |

Yes. Alabama does honor NY state concealed weapons permits. When in Selma or Marion for that matter, exercise that right. As for food or lodging I can't help there as I rarely stop in either place when passing through to west Alabama. 218 covers my G43, looking for Great BBQ...anyone? |

I don't know. I've never been impressed with Dreamland. I feel I've only found ok BBQ in Tuscaloosa, aside from Full Moon.
Full Moon is my suggestion. If in Birmingham look up: Moe's Original BBQ in Lakeview district - there's also one in Trussville and one in Hoover Saw's - will be multiple locations Jim 'n' Nick's - will be a few locations |

The original outside of Tuscaloosa? I can find that 5535 15th Ave E, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405 Or the one in Birmingham. Ate at the one in Birmingham last trip, good stuff. That time it was me and a buddy bringing daughter back to MMI following Christmas break, I considered it a recon. This time it will be the whole family for the graduation. |
