Anyone done any deer hunting here this season? I'm headed there this weekend and wondering if that late Christmas time rut that always seems to allude me has started yet.
Thank you!

I'm about 45 miles south of there, in Washington cty. Our rut doesn't start until mid-january. Our season is split this yr, it closed down 10 days ago for 2 weeks so it will spill over for 2 weeks in to February.
Good luck to you Bro...

Rut in AL starts mid January.

I use December to shoot does.

Thanks for the info.  Where I go, my cousin says that the week before and week after Christmas last year seemed to have the most activity. He is in the N. part of the county near the Pickens Co. line.  Does will work too as I am in serious need of the meat. I will be driving all night to hunt first thing in the AM.

I just back and the rut is still a few weeks away. Only saw a few does, and got one and lost one. Also got a bobcat. A family member works at The Roost Lodge and he said he is just now starting to see a little sign of the bucks swelling up.

This one was killed 2 weeks ago in Sumter Co, his neck is swollen and his tarsals were dark. I've seen several young ones chasing this week but its getting warmed up for sure.

Too funny. I have never heard that.  So you are south of York. The BP station there at 20 and 17 was owned by McBride Oil. That is all my Grandmothers side of the family. All from Cochrane/Aliceville
