Not a whole lot around Leesville. From what I've seen soldiers say about Ft. Polk, it's not known for a great atmosphere.
But it is a hell of a place for training for brutal environments. Alexandria is about 30-45 minutes away, but it's only about 75K people. Has a small suburban feel to it. Mall, cinemas, things like that. Not cosmopolitan. Lots of outdoor things to do in LA, though, if you can stand the heat in the summer. LC |

Most of the eating places in Alexandria are fairly run of the mill from what I recollect. I don't go there all that much any more. It's pretty much a typical Southern suburban town, but you can probably find some decent mom and pop places that serve good food. I do recommend that if you get the chance, try to go to Lea's in Lecompte, about 10-15 miles south of Alexandria on US Hwy 71. It's something of a local legend, known for good local cuisine (fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatos and other typical Southern fare). But more than anything it is known for some of the best pies around. Mr. Lea was a real old school Southern gentleman (he passed on a number of years ago) who treated his customers well. It was a nice, friendly place. I hope it is still that way, been quite a while since I've been there. LC |
| Natchitoches is about an hour away. We have some small events here and there. This weekend is cooking on the cane. Live music Friday evening and Saterday. Anything you interested in more than others. Examples civil war history lots of stuff all over the place. Camping and hiking you have Kisatche national forest I'm sure you'll get enough of that on Peason ridge. Hunting, fishing, and bowfishing several places near by. Clubbing save yourself some time and money and avoid billy goat hill. Like I said let us know what interest are and we'll try to throw some good stuff out. |

| There are several small museums within let's call it an hour and a half drive. Think Oakdale has a logging museum haven't been to it. Mansfield has a civil war museum at the battlefield with reenactments. Marthaville middle of nowhere is Rebel state park haven't been there in 13 years. They used to have blue grass bands play and fiddle competitions. Along with an old country and bluegrass museum lots of stuff on the Louisiana hay ride era. Natchitoches which is my neck of the woods has a good bit of things. Several plantations that offer tours, the old court house, horse and buggy tour of homes, recreation of Ft. Saint Jean Baptist sometimes have people dressed in period clothes explaining things. I'm sure I'm forgetting lots of stuff |
