I'm going to be leaving Nashville for New Orleans. Google maps says to take I-65 into Alabama and then I-59 into NOLA. I had planned on using I-40 to Memphis and then I-55 to NOLA.

Which would y'all take? My way is about 70 miles longer but I've been that way once before and kinda know the roads. Then again I've never been to Alabama.

Any major construction on 65 or 59? or 40 and 55? is Biringham a bear for traffic?

Thanks y'all

ETA, no ccw in 'Bama for me.

I'm no help because I always go down I55 . The only real bottleneck is Jackson.

I would take 65 to 59 so I could spend as little time on MS roads as possible.  The MS roads between here and Memphis are horrible...

Go 65 to 59. The last time I was on 55 it was horrible. Just try not to hit 65 around rush hour.

Google is right.  Traffic from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa will be heavy from 4PM to 6PM.

So if I hit B'ham between noon and 3 I should be OK?

You know that if you have never seen the U.S.S. Alabama, you could take I-65 all of the way to Mobile, see the Alabama and then hang an right on i-10.

I would take 65 all the way down to I -10 in Mobile then take 10 into nola .

Big +1 on seeing the USS Alabama . Even if you dont tour the ship and just go through battle ship park it is a great sight to see .
I have the battleship as my wallpaper on my laptop looks real cool .

Thanks guys, I decided to go the cow route thru MS.

I've had a great time in Nola, will be starting the trip home in the AM! Watch for a blue Toyota with a bfl on the right rear bumper. I55 to Memphis, may spend the night there with a friend, then onto Nashville via 40 for a couple days.

I65s, I59s all day long.  Birmingham rush hour traffic sucks, especially on Fridays, so get there before 3:00.
