Any live in Montgomery? Wife travels to there 4 or 5 times a month to visit a client. She always stays at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center. Is that in a fairly safe area of town. She is totally oblivious to stuff, so i am just seeing if it is.
thanks all |

I think that Downtown Montgomery is pretty safe. Although NO place is absolutely safe, Downtown is mostly government employees and visitors. Most of the crime in Montgomery seems to happen in certain housing areas. Impeach Obama for the Good of the Government Unions. |
| I work in Montgomery, close to downtown. Daytime is better. Nighttime is so-so, with the exception of when the AAA baseball team is playing (lots of police in the downtown area during games). Some refer to Montgomery as Monthugery, depending on location, i.e. East Montgomery is becoming the feeding trough for some thugs, especially around Eastchase. Tell her to avoid Overlook Park and Maxwell Blvd / Bell St areas near the Interstate and river because thats where vagrants / bums / hobos / homeless / whatever you call them hang out. Some can be pretty bold in their panhandling. A local benevolent group feeds these people for free daily at Overlook Park, and it has gotten pretty busy as a result. Although I applaud their kindness, I think they are being taken advantage of; it just concentrates some ne'er-do-wells in one area who after they've eaten, go looking for other handouts / free stuff. JMHO and I hope it helps. |

There are a few of us in the area. She is staying at one of the nicest places in town thats for sure. There are a few decent places to eat within walking distance also. The riverfront area has gone through some changes over the past few years, mainly a rejuvination effort. With that has come increased security and patrols due to there now being more places to eat and socialize right in the vicinity of where she is staying. You can safely walk back to that hotel from 3 blocks in any direction up until about 11pm.
If she wants to shop or have other food choices, she should check out East Chase off of Taylor Rd. If you have any specific questions or she expresses interests in anything specific just let us know and we will try and help out. |

I've been out of town and just saw this (sorry!) but the guys above already nailed it. Coincedentally, I was at the Renaissance most of the day today for a symposium. Nice hotel, great meeting venue... but I wouldn't go strolling around outside unarmed after dark, personally. In/around the hotel proper she should be okay. |

Thank you hardshell. She says it is a very nice hotel. Her client actually owns the hotel, so she always has a very nice suite. She always either has a rent car or someone from the client picks her up and drops her off. So she is never out walking around alone. The last few months, that has included a security escort. Sorry, cant say why.
I have just never been to Montgomery, so I was curious what it is like. I worry about my wife, probably too much. Thanks all |
