I'm in North Alabama and I'm looking for a public range that has at least 500yds. I just bought a Remington 700 and want to try some longer distance shooting. Anything in a 100 mile radius from Huntsville would be prefered.

Thanks in advance....

600 yard range and you get the use of a golf cart in your range fee

Never tried it but plan to try it out soon.

It's 100, 200, 300 and 500 yards.

I've been going there quite a bit with my 700 PSS.

If you're accustomed to shooting from a conventional rifle bench, you're going to find this a little different. For insurance reasons you'll be shooting through a 10-15 foot long "tube" of tires (so the shot can't go astray). You're in a wood building, and you put your barrel though a hole in the wall to shoot down through those tires at the targets.

There's no conventional bench, but instead more of a counter. There's enough room for a front support (sandbag or other type), but not a rear support. That's fine for sighting in for hunting, but not for more precise shooting.

I made a piece of plywood that's 30 inches wide and 36 inches long. I cut a notch 5 inches into the 30 inch width and 15 inches into the 36 inch length. I set that on top of the counter, then clamp a length of 1" x 1" to the rear, sort of like a table leg, to give it support. That board enables me to use sandbags for rear support.

Also, if you're using supports like that, you'll need to sit up a bit higher (or at least I do), so I have some cushions to get some extra height.

The floor is a bit bouncy, so if you're going for precision, you have to wait until people stop moving around. If you use a chronograph, make sure you have a really tall tripod.

It makes for a funny-looking loaded down golf cart, but I'm getting 2-3" groups at 500 yards, and that makes me happy.

It's $15 for the day, which is a bargain.

The lady I talked to when I called kinda explained about having to shoot through a window. is there room if I bring a small fold up table to but up against the bench for the rear bag? I'll have to go at least once to check it out. I've about got a guy I work with that has some land talked into putting in a shooting area.

You could butt a table up to the "counter" (I call it a counter rather than a bench, because it's more like a counter). The tough part would be getting the counter height and table height to match. That's why I cut a piece of plywood to sit on top and the support with a leg at the rear.

The tires are placed side by side so that they create a tunnel that you have to shoot through. The 100 yard backstop is below the level of the building, so you're shooting down about 8 degrees.
