| Are there any matches locally? Been thinking about trying my hand at this game. |
| I have never participated, but you may want to google HardRock shooting Alabama |
| I'm here in Decatur. My friends and I have been to Allegheny Sniper Challenge several times. The 'shooting buddies' have been to Hard Rock, but I haven't. We train for matches, i.e. get real world dope out at Maple Ridge Gun Club in Cullman. We've been threatening to do a tactical long range simulation matchwith 22s for over a year now, and I have that simulator course already set up. |
| Sorry, I misunderstood since the title said Precision Rifle. HardRock is a pure 1000yd comp if I'm not mistaken. Allegheny is a unknown distance comp (rangefinders not allowed). You may want to check out The Practical Marksman website. They have a yearly comp that may be more to your liking, although its mostly bolt gun. And if pistol/carbine is your fav, there are some 3-gun matches in the area and certainly an IDPA competition. |

HR is, I think invitation only but I think it is pretty easy to get a invite I can PM you with contact info if you like. Steel City has a PR match and we have a few local PR matches close to where I live also. |

I'm trying to find stuff that involves movement, maybe a pistol or carbine.... I guess more of a "sniper" match than benchrest/pure accuracy stuff. You want 3 gun. A "sniper" match involves shooting from different positions at unknown distance targets at longer ranges. |
| OP, you might consider attending an Appleseed event, if you haven't previously done so. Appleseed |

Are you close to Birmingham? Steel City has a bunch of different matches. Keep an eye on the website for details www.scssa.org There are precision rifle, carbine, multigun, IPSC and IDPAmatches there.
I'll be posting information on our 2011 Carbine (etc) match schedule on this board in a week or so. There is usually a pretty good contingent of ARFCOM'ers at these so you'll be in for a few laughs Other area matches to check out include: Creekside Firing Range - Quarterly Sniper Challenge. The range is in Taylorsville, GA near Atlanta. I think Joe, the range owner, may be planning to shift a couple of matches each year up to Mamouth in KY. There's one there this weekend. Shots at Creekside go out to around 500yds. These are really fun matches! Hardrock - Monthly long range matches from Feb - Sept near Auburn. These are invitational matches held on private property. Send me a PM if interested and I'll see if I can fix you up. One MOA and two MOA steel targets are shot off benches at 600, 800, 900 and 1000 yds. Be sure to know your dope at 600yds at least. If you can't hit the 600yd target they won't let you shoot the others. Practice day is Friday, match day is Saturday. Practical Marksman Challenge - This is an annual match held on the Hardrock property near Auburn. Great fun, many challenging rifle/pistol shots of various distances from different shooting positions. They're not having a 2011 match due to some conflicts but are planning to hold one in the Feb timeframe in 2012. The competition forum on SnipersHide is a good source for info on the types of matches you seem interested in. Hope that helps. |
