Is this the ham radio equivalent of a gunshow?  How many tables? Lots of stuff for sale?

yes. size seems to vary a lot from year to year.

not just ham stuff but computer and other electronics as well.

A few years ago I passed all three tests in the same weekend - Technician (Sat. morning), General (Sat. afternoon), Extra (Sunday morning).  I started studying on Wed. or Thursday for Tech and General, Sat. evening for Extra.  I printed out the question pools and highlighted the correct answer for each question.  I then read the question and the correct highlighted answer.  I did not read the wrong answers, just the correct one for each question (an even better approach would probably be to white out all the incorrect answers).  I did this repeatedly before the tests, and managed to pass each one first try by reading the question and going with my first impression for the correct answer.  I treated it as an exercise in taking multiple choice tests, not in learning HAM knowledge.

Of course getting a license and being a real HAM are two different things, but if I have an interest in getting into it in the future I won't have to worry about the bureaucracy.

no, i just couldn't drop the cash on it. doing some research i am kinda glad i didn't buy that ft100 rig. looks like it had a ton of issues reading the reviews. I am still torn on getting the ft817. i really like that rig but i am afraid it's going to force me to learn code to actually use it
3/8/2010 4:39:32 AM EDT

Anyone ever get on the BARC or SCARC repeaters?  I haven't used my radios in years ever since I lost touch with my friend who got me into Ham.   We could start an informal ARFCOM net.

it has become my new nightly bedtime thing.  i listen to the barc repeater around 10 until i fall asleep.  has been some pretty good conversation to listen to on there.  in the mornings its is like fact of the day or something.  this morning listening to it, i learned why cafe bikes are called cafe bikes.  also learned that if you do enough of them you can change out a forklift clutch in 45 minutes.  pretty neat stuff.  think i will join the barc just so i can contribute to the upkeep of the repeater.  i am using one of tbs's small backup radios and i can hit it all the way from centerpoint.

he brings it on himself. They were talking about pelosi one day and he's defending her to no end... even commented on how he saw her in person and she's got all the right curves in all the right places. I thought I was going to have to pull over to throw up! Dewayne (sp?) cracks me up... he gets on Clyde all the time lol.

I was thinking more in the 7 to 8 range.  No more 10 o'clock nights for this old man.  I'm not 18 years old any more like I was 9 years ago.

Anyone think it's a bad idea to post my call?  I don't care if other hams know it, I just don't really want the layperson to get a hold of it and use it for evil rather than good.

Bad Idea.  There are a lot of Liberals and others that read this board and they would do harm to people on this board if they knew how to find them.

Impeach Obama because he is violating the Constitution and the Will of the People.
