Prolly out there by 1200.  Say, have they cleaned it up, or is it still a dump?  I ask, cuz I have a 30" TV I'd love to shoot, but only if it's still the pigstuy I used to know and love.

I have not been out in years.  Used to be public access, no cost, shoot what ya want, a real dump.  Fun to go shoot TV's and appliances, that kind of place.

The only thing you need to have on your person is a current hunting license or wildlife managment permit... both at walmart for around $20.  Get caught by the conservation officers and you'll get a ticket.  They cleaned up the range a lot in the past 2 years... planted grass and added some berms.

sweet think it would be a good place to shoot some tannerite?

Don't see why not... I shot some propane back in the day... getting a decent price for the tann?

Take your body armor...

Seems on the weekends all the "good ol' boys" that never learned about pointing guns at people come out.  Weekday mornings appear to be the best/safest time to go.  YMMV

+1 on this advice.  The last time I was out there (years ago) I was a basket case by the time I left.  D#mb@ss*s handling guns while others were downrange, slides racking, bolts being worked etc.  Be very cautious.

The FOP range up in Plesant Grove has a public range for a reasonable daily fee.  It's a bit of a drive from the Helena/Alabaster/Pelham area, but might be worth it. Better yet, just join Steel City and have the best of all worlds!

I quit going to the Helena range. Place was a trash dump and weapon handling was less than desirable. Scary people there.
