OK,time to do some recruiting. I am a SSG (Staff Sergeant) in the ALSDF. This is the LEGAL state milia or state military. We serve along side the National Guard and are bound to the state. We mainly do disaster response and guard duty for public events.
We are under the same Adjutant General as the NG. The Governor is also our Commander in Chief.  We operate out of our respective NG armories. This is a great oportunity to serve your community, state and country. Much of our ranks are prior service. If you were turned down for medical and kept from serving in the Armed Forces, this is the perfect place for you. As long as you aren't a convicted felon you are good to go. This would also be good for those interested in serving but don't know if it would be something you would like to do. You are sworn in but you may leave at any time you wish to do so. No strings attached. Attend a local drill and at least see what goes on. I was unable to serve because of a pin in my right wrist and some back issues although you would have no idea by looking at me. We need good unselfish troops to do great things for their fellow citizens in times of great need. Who will stand tall and be recognised? WWW.AL-SDF.org  Check it out. My name is SSG Heatherly and I serve in the 103rd Battalion,1st Infantry Brigade ALpha Company in Athens. I live in Cullman. If you decide to join tell us I welcome you. If not, I thank you for at least reading this post and considering it.

Living to serve you,
SSG William Heatherly

PS, we have units all over ALabama so there's one near you.

As a side note. For those who are interested in advance training, most LEO/military only training at the local training centers and academies let ASDF members take the training.

ie. you could go to SWAT, sniper, etc school and not be an LEO.

Apparently LA doesn't have a website. This is the info given to me on it. At the bottom is a site that you may contact for further info. La operates very differently than we do from what I read.

§5.  Louisiana State Guard

A.  Members of the unorganized militia who volunteer and are called into active service of the state may, in the governor's discretion, be organized into units in addition to and distinct from designated units of the national guard, and, when so organized, shall be known as the Louisiana State Guard.

B.  The Louisiana State Guard shall be uniformed, organized and maintained in accordance with the regulations for discipline and training prescribed by the secretary of the army and the secretary of the air force of the United States of America or their successors.  The governor may establish rules and regulations as may be necessary to govern the Louisiana State Guard.

C.  Whenever these forces are on active service or going to or returning therefrom, the members shall have the same rights, duties, privileges, and immunities as are provided for the other military forces of this state.  This shall not be construed to entitle any officer or enlisted man of the state guard, by reason of service, to any pension, bounty, bonus, or gratuity, other than the worker's compensation benefits provided under R.S. 23:1211.

D.  The governor may request from the secretary of the army and secretary of the air force of the United States of America arms and equipment for the use of the Louisiana State Guard.  He may make available to these forces property or facilities of the state or its subdivisions.

E.  Nothing contained in this Section shall be construed as authorizing the Louisiana State Guard or any part thereof to be transferred, as such, into the military service of the United States of America, but no person by reason of membership in the Louisiana State Guard shall be exempt from military service under laws of the United States of America.

F.  No civil organization or association shall be enlisted in the Louisiana State Guard as an organizational unit.

G.  No person shall be commissioned or enlisted in the Louisiana State Guard who has been expelled or dishonorably discharged from any of the military forces of this state, of another state, or of the United States of America.

H.  All officers of the Louisiana State Guard shall take the oath required by law before entering upon the duties of their office.  Every person who enlists or reenlists in the Louisiana State Guard shall take and sign the oath required by law and shall execute a contract of enlistment.  No person shall be enlisted in the state guard for longer than one year, but the enlistment may be extended for successive periods not to exceed one year in length.  Volunteers in the state guard shall not be paid by the military department of the state for any state active duty performed unless this duty extends beyond three consecutive days, when the governor may authorize payment.

Part-time LEO in Podunk, AL.

I think it was SWAT school where I ran into a couple ALSDF guys.

A person can get some quality training at great value for the cost.

Example, you could take a sniper course through a LEA sponsored course for $250-$300 vs private at $1300+.

Yeah, I went to one of your meetings last year.....It was at the Cullman National Guard post. That night ya'll had a fellow member teaching some Self-defense stuff......Looks like you could get some good training with the ALSDF....
but it wasn't for me.....as far as I could tell, you guys are basically directing traffic, doing some crowd control (when needed), and going to local events......I didn't see much else going on......maybe there was more to it but thats all I saw......Plus I was (and still am) working 7-days per week and didn't have time to commit to anything.

I'm interested in joining although I'm not sure I'm in a position to right now.  I'm still getting established from getting a job and moving here to Hunstville.  It really depends on whats required.

I've always been interested in military service in some capacity, even did 2 years of Army ROTC in college.  Came to the point that I didn't have enough hours in the day to work, do everything my engineering coursework required and everything the Army required.  Had to decide whether I wanted to be an engineer or a 2nd LT in the Army and I chose engineer.

I'm sending you my info as well tinmann

Alright, seriously though......you guys do a great service when your community needs help.....I respect you for that.
Like I said earlier, some people have Jobs and work long hours.....even 7-days per week..........Its like we have become a slave to this society when we're forced to work 10-12 hour days and 7-days per week.......It leaves lilttle time for other things, even family.
BTW, I don't work these hours by choice, around here its a "Do it or Else" attitude......and people get fired when you don't work those hours......Its kinda frustrating......rant off

+1 on that one for me, maybe we can recruit the asdf into showing up at our works at motivating the bossmen into giving us poor souls more time off

WOW.....I get to wear BDUs and wear black boots?????......Hell, it'll be just like I'm a Special forces commando....That shit ROCKS!!!!!....I've always wanted to pretend I'm a military commando...

I just copied this form the ALSDF website so do t his and CSM Will get you on the right track.

How do my friends and I join?

We encourage you to express your interest in the SDF by e-mailing the Command Sergeant Major at [email protected] Include your name, mailing address, telephone number and a brief description of your educational, military and civilian experience.

In each case, you will receive an application packet with additional information and instructions for completion and return to the appropriate recruiting section. Once this has been processed you will be directed to the unit nearest your home to meet our personnel and complete the application process.

Tel the CSM that I sent you.
ALso ask the CSM where your unit would be so you can go and visit a drill and check it out.
