Anyone know which broadband provider services northern Jefferson county?  We moved and lost Charter and this is probably the first time I have been able to get on outside of work in weeks.  ARG

(and don't say BellSouth.  BellSouth has their heads up their butts when it comes to new connections to new homes in new subdivisions.  Can someone explain this sentence, spoken from one of BellSouth's supposed tech specialists regarding getting service here?:

"I sorry, Sir, I cannot help you at this time with those informations.  I can transfer you..."

Comcast?  Maybe see what your neighbors have.

I agree!  Bellsouth is Crap!

By the way, I've got 20rounders for my Saiga .308 AK.  Sometime after the holidays we'll have to go shoot.

Being retired from Bellsouth after almost 31 years as a Service Tech I feel like I may be a bit more qualified to say whether or not Bellsouth is crap.

FWIW, Bellsouth has became a crappy company within the last 10 years or so.  Why that is I really can't say but I do know that the average employee is disgusted with the way things are going.

I worked in DSL the last 18 months I was with the company and hated every minute of it!  That job helped me make my decision to retire.

Now get this, after having worked in that job for 18 months, been retired for almost 5 years and I still can't get DSL myself!

I will tell you this, go about the neighborhood visiting with your neighbors and asking them to go to Bellsouth's website and see whether or not they can get DSL.  Let's say 20 do that every week.  Bell (hopefully) will soon take notice and decide to get the service into your neighborhood.

Installing the service is very expensive and Bell will not invest those funds if they don't feel like they can get a return from their investment.

Good luck in getting the service,

Rick

bellsouth has 100% of it's expansion plans for ANYTHING on hold due to the pending merger with ATT. there will be NOTHING done for atleast 1 year after the merger is approved or disapproved after congressional hearings in 2007.

depending on where you are up here your screwed. if cable is not available satelitte, dialup or cellular wireless are your only options.

i looked into cellular. 40-70.00 per month plus a 200.00 pc card + adding another phone line to your cell account <anouther 30-50.00 per month. Minimum cost of wireless.... 80-120.00 per month depending on provider and NON of the companies could give me any speed information. all they would say is... "faster than dialup" .

if you are north of gardendale and south of warrior....... you're screwed.

I lucked out. Put a house under contract on Straight Mountain, between Springfield and Oneonta. The local telephone company has both cable and DSL

Now for the home to pass inspection in a couple of weeks. 20 acres, big spring fed pond, creek and spring. Walk out on the back porch and blast away

Deer, turkey and yotes
