I did this as a thread rather than IM in case any of you other locals are interested.

The first of August is tax free on school supplies in Jefferson County, in case you were looking for an excuse to rack up on some scrapbooking supplies or whathaveyou.  Just an FYI.

2006 SALES TAX HOLIDAY
Alabama will hold its first annual sales tax holiday,
beginning Friday, August 4, 2006 at 12:01 a.m. and ending Sunday, August 6, 2006 at 12 midnight,
giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of
state sales tax. Local sales tax may apply.
