I've never had a gun shop offer to show me how to do anything with a firearm I purchased from them.  Some have offered to sell me accessories, but that's it.  They take my money and I leave with a new toy.  I never thought it was their job to show me how to clean and use a gun.  I always get an owner's manual with each gun that fully explains how to properly clean and maintain it.  Those customers can't read?

As far as the fraud you referred to, that isn't exceptable at all.  They should go out of business for that.

Generally if you ask it is not a problem, especially if they are an armorer for that particular model.

I actually had a local gun shop refuse to break down a brand new Compact CDP I at the time I bought it. I think it is a good idea to break it down in the store to make sure it is functioning properly, whether you know how to break it down or not. I kick the tires and take a look at the engine on any car I buy. Shouldn't it be the same thing with guns?

Since I just moved here, would you mind just IM'g me the name of that shop, so I don't inadvertantly walk in there without knowing. Thx.

I've bought from them before.  The never offered any extra assistance, but I just wanted to buy what I wanted and leave.

I worked PT and FT at a gun store for over 7 years and I always offered to demonstrate dissasembly and re-assembly to customers along with advice on cleaning.
