Is there any way to check and see if a firearm has a clean history other then going to the police and asking if this gun was ever stolen?

The firearm in question has to be in the hands of a Law Enforcement Officer for them to be able to identify the firearm ,and then that Officer can check NCIC to see if the firearm is stolen. That is the only way. If the firearm is stolen they will confiscate it on the spot, and you will be questioned as to how you got it in your possession.

I had something in question a while back. I asked a buddy to run it for me and it came back clean. He also told me that if it wouldnt have I would have had to give it up. Just like any other info that gets ran, if it comes back stolen, reported in a crime or whatever it gets flagged and stored. Needless to say, you two wont be the only ones who know about it.
