Good evening everyone.

I just recently found out that I will be moving to the Columbus, IN area with my fiance.  Can anyone point me to a good starting point for gun stores, places to eat, etc.  You know, the usual necessary
stuff you need to know when you move to a new place.

Also, does anyone know any places that are hiring for full time positions in the area?  I have not had any luck so far, and I need to get something secured before our move.

I really appreciate any help and advice that anyone could provide.  I look forward to being your new neighbor!

I lived in Columbus for many years and still visit about twice a week. It's a really great town and I would move back in a heartbeat. It's close to a lot of good outdoors stuff in the Hoosier Natl Forest and state parks. Downtown is growing rapidly. Plenty of small, but good restaurants downtown. There's a small brewery there called Columbus Bar that's a really great place to hang out that has a great rotating selection of beers and food. All the usual chains and stuff are available as well. The k-12 schools are pretty good.  If you're moving here with a woman that likes to shop, Columbus is 10-15 minutes away from an enormous outlet mall on I65. Getting around town is easy and everything you need seems like it's close.

What kind of job are you looking for? Cummins has four factories in the area, a couple of research facilities and their global headquarters there. I worked with them for several years and it's a pretty good company to work for. There are other manufacturing jobs, a few architectural firms, and some decent contractors. It helps in that town if you have a degree, but that's probably like most places. There's some serious warehousing around Seymour.

There's a shooting club located in Brown County called Hoosier Hills. They're a good bunch of guys. Reddington, just south of Columbus has a small gun shop (the name escapes me) that's always been great to me. There are good shops in Seymour, Greenwood, and southern Indy, all within an hour of Columbus. And for public ranges, you'll be close to Crosley State Forest and Atterbury.

I would still live there, but I had to relocate for school. Good luck, I hope you like it there.

Columbus is a nice town with a lot to offer.  Cummins is hiring several now but mainly engineering and technical positions, not many in manufacturing.

My son lives in Columbus and I noticed in the local paper there were several ads in the help wanted section.  You might also look in Seymour, some of the factories are hiring there too but most require you to go thru an employment agency and work as a temp for a while.

Ther is a small gun shop in Columbus but the best close shop is Acme Sports in Seymour.
