Hey guys:
Thought I'd try to use this avenue to look for a job. I lost my job Friday 8/20, and thought maybe I could put a thread here to see if anyone is looking to hire? I have been in the trucking industry (non-driver for 3.5 years), and ideally, would like to stay in the industry if I can find an employer that is fair, abides by DOT regs (former employer did not), acts as a resource for drivers, firm, fair, consistent, and gun friendly too would be great (but I won't press my luck in this economy!). I've been doing dispatching, though was hired for HR/Recruiting/Driver Development/Driver Retention. If you want to know more, or might have a lead, please call me at 219.364.6229. Thanks, Erick |

Good luck. I'll keep an eye out for you. Any other skills or any thing else you would be willing to try? What kind of money are you looking for? -Have 3.5 yrs in the trucking industry (non-driving) -Recruiting/Dispatch -Familiar with DOT Hours of service regs Was hired to do HR/Recruiting/Driver Retention but never really got to do that, always stuck in dispatch. Would really like to do that again if I could. -Money? I was making $35k, so equal or more than that would be nice. Would like to get into HR, but other than what Tandem offered me, I don't think I could do that without further education, because HR is very specialized. Would like to do something gun related as I love guns and shooting, but there's just not a lot of money in it. Truck driving? Hell no. I can hardly drive my car sometimes. Driving a truck with a 53' trailer is a sheer recipe for disaster. Thanks for your post. Erick |

That was one of the first things that I thought of too. I would also try calling Reith Riely. Was talking to a guy yesterday that said he had an recent offer from them. Walsh Kelly possibly. They have alot of trucks on the road too. Just a few Ideas that popped in my head. Also try the state highway and the county departmants. Not sure what those pay but one of the guys I know hired in with at the state highway over in laporte. He was telling me that alot of the people that hired in at the same time as him were guys that were layed off else where. Sounded to me like several guys would be leaving after their other work picked up. |

Erick,
Sorry to hear about that, I know we have talked previously about work related issues...... supposedly its a little better out there now than when I was off work. I know my neighbor was a long time driver for Towne Air Freight, he went back to school for HVAC, the State is paying for it so you may check into that (schooling not HVAC !!!) while you are on unemployment. Good luck, |

Hi guys:
I truly appreciate how you guys jumped in to offer suggestions. It really means a lot, especially right now. Please keep me in mind in your time of need, and I will do whatever I can to help you out. Off topic: It just amazes me that when you put a truck out of service because you know its not DOT legal, or down a driver for Hours of Service, that it comes back to bite you in the ass. A driver called into Dispatch where I was working on Friday Aug. 13 in Cedar Rapids, IA, and said he was driving into a tornado (was a new driver), and said the weather was getting bad and asked if he could pull over. Of course, I had to get permission. The first 2 times, I was told no. The third time, the boss gave me this look and told me to tell him to shut down until it was "safe". I was only doing what was I thought was right and legal. I was told to pick the driver's side or the Company's side, that I couldn't be on both. I tried to support the company whenever I could, but in instances like these, I just couldn't do it. If something happened, accident/injury/fatality, it would be MY ass...I seriously doubt the Company would go to bat for me... Just rambling, sorry guys. Thanks for listening anyhow and for your help. Not sure I can be of much help but there is Wabash National in Lafayette though I thought I had heard they filed bankruptcy at one point?
I also have an Excel spreadsheet that was passed on to me that lists about 200 co's in Indiana. Granted this list was geared towards manufacturing jobs but hell, it might be worth a shot. I did pull up a hit that might interest you on my Purdue account. It's entry level but I can pass the info to you if you'd like. They might be looking for experienced people as well. |

Dude my Brother in-law is a big shot @ Schneider Trucking, over like Six or Seven gigs in multiple states or something, he is always in PA, Wisconsin, Ill, IN, etc. I will ask him if they are hiring, you have a resume? BTW you could make 60-70k @ the mills your first year but shift work sux. |

The interview could go either way. I'm glad I had the opportunity. I think they were looking for someone with more experience (brokering, finding freight, etc), but I'm glad I had the chance to throw my name into the ring. I'm not against learning new tasks/responsibilities at all. I'll give them a call on Tuesday and see where we're at. Was a pretty cool place, though. Solid plan for expansion. That's good for everyone involved. Thanks guys for all your support. Really means a lot right now.
