The hometown forum doesn't get much traffic, but what can you do? Anyway, don't write off MCRC because of Kempf, they are are a good group of guys and girls. They started having IDPA competitions about a year ago and have a 200 yard rifle range (not common around here) and fairly nice facilities. There's also the North Porter County Conservation Club they usually have a good variety of competitions over in Chesterton. There's also Blythe's in Valparaiso, they have an indoor pistol range. If you want to buy something there, be sure you know what the going prices are they can be a bit rapey if you don't know any better. Kingsbury has nice range (KOP) but they have funny hours. Kingsbury is also a great place to explore (mind the warning signs though, there is still dangerous areas that have buried ordinance). I'd hot link something, but you're better off googling it. A recent bonus that is nice is that Cabela's and Bass Pro have sprung up in close proximity. There's also plenty of small lakes to enjoy in addition to Lake Michigan. If you're in to dirt bikes there's also Motoland which is in KOP.
About Kempf: everyone thinks he is an asshole. My first expereince told me that too. |

Welcome to NW IN Preble. You're spot on with Kempf, I'll drive to Bass Pro instead and Kempf is just a mile or so away from me.
There is the DNR range at Jasper/Pulaski which is 40 miles south of Michigan City off RT. 421. 225, 100, 50 and 25 yard ranges with benches in various stages of repair or dilapidation. Class 3 Sales outside of New Carlise has an indoor range with 5 or 6 lanes. |

Thanks a lot! I am looking to buy a large lot of land in the north side La porte, maybe open a public style range. with some camp sites. So we could get some Norther Indiana Arfcom Camp and shoots going.(here in NC we have em all the time. lots of fun) That sounds great!! An ARFCOM shoot up here in the north (close to home) I can't wait.. Hope to see you soon.

The range at KOP has weird hours because of the lack of traffic. Most people shoot on their own property or their friends. Food for thought. |

Well I figured moving to Indiana to open your own range was never your master plan One more thing about your range , and I'm sure this is a no shitter but if you have a good backstop nobody can screw with ya. I had a friend in LaPorte that had a neighbor (nutcase) that constantly called the police on him. She did it at least three times just when I was over there. The police would come out, look at the backstop, roll their eyes, and tell her to stop calling. I know some people in that area that could propably help you build one (bobcats make backstops pretty quick) |

This is a good gun shop right in the area. Charges $15 for transfers and $50 for class 3 transfers. Has a range on the premises too.
