I know of only a few ranges up north, If anyone knows of others let me know..

Debs gun range
Willow Slough
One more near Willow Slough on 41.

Kinda stinks when you have to drive an hour just to fire a rifle..

I'm from Highland BTW

You just go to Gary, the locals seem to think it is fine!

On a serious note, for rifle shooting you have Willow Slough, Jasper-Pulaski, and Kingsbury.  Kingsbury is controled and very nice, where JP is uncontrolled.  JP has a 225 yard range, while Kingsbury only goes out to 100 yards.

I shoot on private property since I have mgs, but Kingsbury is the nicest.

Both of these ranges are going to be at least an hour for you, probably closer to 90 min.

I go to Kingsbury usually. It is a regulated range, which I don't usually like. It is, however, very nice.

JP is also a good one. It has the longest (225 yds) range of any that I know of.

Winimac has a nice range also right off of 35.

Where is this Willow Slough range?

I don't know of any ranges near Highland, sorry.

Lasalle = 1.5 miles west of US 41 off SR 10 on CR 475W Lake Village, Newton 219-992-3019

Willow Slough = 3 miles west of US 41 on SR 14, then .5 miles north of CR 600W, Morocco, 219-285-2704

Both are about 20 minutes apart from each other on 41. Lasalle is small, 4 ranges 50 yards I think. Willow Slough is larger and has longer range areas.

I'd love to be deputized and do some crime prevention in Gary.  With that place so near it makes SHTF a reality.

The Kingsbury ( south LaPorte)range is OK, usually not many folks there.
at Jasper Pulaski  and Winamac I have been watched by range officials and questioned a few times as to if my weapon was " an automatic weapon" ?? it is not and was not.  Be certain to sign in at both places. This is initial question that range official asks as they approach you. Other then this occasional paranoia all three ranges are OK.  There is indoor for handguns only at Blythe in Valpo.

Blythes is a good time when it is too cold out, but they need to invest in some lighting. The range is pretty dark.

I've never personally been questioned at any range in Indiana.

My favorite range is Winimac, but it is an hour away.

I've gotten the question at Willow Slough  on whether the range card was filled out as well, and been asked not to rapid fire, even before the first time I shot there, you think it might've been the "evil" looking black rifle??  =)  I agree Blythe's DOES need more lighting, I can barely see my Novak black on black sights there, let alone get a good sight picture out of 'em.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the range card.  I think the rangemaster said something like a huge fine if you didn't fill it out. I can't figure out what purpose it must serve other then telling them who is using the range.

Just got back from Blythes a bit ago.  A friend of mine knows the owner, so we can shoot full-auto there. Today my friend had 2 MP5s and I had my M16 with the 22 kit.  It's not bad.

Range Masters should be open in about 2 months.  Pretty much anything will go there, full-auto up to 30 cal I hear.

!!!!

I shoot at Blythes all the time. Would they freak out if I let a burst from an UZI or does all FA need to be cleared with the owner first?

Basically the rules we have to follow is that we can only shoot full-auto when no one else is in the shooting area.  You would need to ask first.

Today we fired almost 3000 rounds, give or take a few.

Thank you kindly!

I saw the Range Masters commercial on channel 56. Couldn't believe my eyes - lots of potential.

Anyone shoot at that little hole in the wall in Crown Point (stone's throw away from the red brick Lake County Courthouse)?

The range in C.P. is horrible.  I live about 4 or 5 blocks from it.  I've been there 2 or 3 times, and I won't go back.  Only has an indoor pistol range.  It's worth the extra time to go to Blythe's.  I believe it's called P&M Sports, or something similar.  They have absolutely no ammo in stock, hardly any guns for sale, and the range is like a dungeon.  Oh, and only has 2 lanes.  And the owner is an idjit.  Last time I was there, I asked for a box of 9mm for my 92FS.  This @rse looks on his little bookshelf, picks up the ONLY box of 9mm, and says, "Hold on, I just put 10 of these bullets in my gun, I'll put them back in the box!!  Ugh.  Well, I decided to go ahead and take the bullets, since I only had one box of my own, and I felt like shooting more than 5 magazines.  Anyways, after I'm done in there, I came out and asked to see his stainless pistol, which I'd mistaken for a Beretta, turns out it was a Taurus.  Well, I'd been thinking about picking up a stainless 96 to complement my 92, and that's why I asked to see it.  When I found out it wasn't a Beretta, I really wasn't interested anymore, but he still kept pushing it on me, telling me how great Tauruses were and how it was exactly the same as the Beretta.  He even went so far as to tell me the slides were interchangeable.  Then he wanted to show me.  So I let him.  Big mistake.  Let's just say that they weren't as compatible as he thought.  He ended up getting his slide off of my frame with a frigging mallet.  Needless to say, I do NOT condone going to that place.

Yeah, that's the place! The one time I tried to shoot there he said the range was down for maintenance. All I remember about the place is that it smelled funny... at least I hope it was the shop!
