Anyone know of a Gunsmith in central Indiana that can properly thread a AR barrel "so I can install my phantom flash supressor".

I'm sure Elmore's could handle it for you.

Thanks CAR-15, I did not know he did that kind of work.

It's actually a machinist off-site that does the threading for Elmore's.  They threaded mine and did an OK job, just a little bit of copper residue on the FSB from the vice protection.  Someone else on here wasn't as happy with his, but I forget who or exactly what was wrong with his.  Mine cost $50 IIRC, and took less than a week.  He didn't take the barrel off the receiver, so he was doing it with a mill and not a lathe if that matters to you.  (Threading by lathe could theoretically have better alignment concentricity with the bore.)

Darrel's Custom Firearms in Cayuga can also thread the barrel for you and he has to disassemble it so I'm pretty sure he uses a lathe.  He quoted me $60 (+$30 to take the barrel on/off the receiver) when I was asking around.  He did very nice work turning down a barrel for me, but turnaround was more like a month and a half.

Thanks for the info. You would think with IN gun laws, and the precentage ffl and shooting enthusiast that there would be more gunsmiths/gunrelated services here.hinking.gif

I think the other variable in the equation is places/opportunity to shoot.  If Indiana had more public ranges offering long distance shooting, there would be more shots fired here.

You do have a point Commish. I just seems that IL and OH have better (services) with terrible laws.

From what I understand the "machinist off-site" is:
Ray Saltzman
Gunsmith/machinist
3896S 400W
Tipton IN 46072
(765)675-2071

I live in Tipton but I do not know him. You might want to contact him rather than go through a middle man if it is more convenient.

Also, in Arcadia In, (south of Tipton)is:
Jeff Kruse
20 W Howard St.
Arcadia IN
317/984-5597

I do know Jeff but I have not had any work done by him although I have heard he is good.

Jeff is good, and a good guy to do business with, I always drop by and say hi at the 1500. I do a little work where and there too.

There is a guy down by Columbus just west of I65 on 46.  I can't remember his name off the top of my head, I'll post later if I can remeber, or maybe someone else will chime in with his name.  He did the trigger job for my brother's and my Para P16s, he was recomended to use by some of the local IPSC guys.  His work was good, and very reasonably priced.

That's not Gary Growe is it?  If that's who I'm thinking of he's top shelf.

Among other things, I've had an AR barrel threaded by Neil Keller in Decatur and he did a great job (he uses a lathe).  He's doing another for me right now.

Sounds like Gary Growe to me.   The guy that told me about him had him work on his STI and said he was "very pleased" with the work.
