Due to an injury my Dept. has relieved me of my duty weapon, so I have reverted to carrying a knife as one option.  New member to MD as well and have discovered that concealing a fixed blade illegal.  Not about to carry a fb exposed, so I've been carrying a SOG PE II.  A bit large but sharp as hell.

I understand this law has been around for quite some time, so I'm not confident we could get that changed any time soon.  I know I'm LEO but I play by the rules like everyone else.  Just not comfortable using a folder in defensive situation...  I would prefer a solid piece if steel.

Any thoughts?

If you're LE, why not just carry a personal firearm?

i mentioned an injury and have been relieved of my police powers until my hand heals.  pretty much left to carry something non dept. issued so the asp and oc are out.  i will be weak hand only for the next 3 months until I'm done with therapy.

was looking at the crkt hissatsu folder.  looking for a strong lock more than anything.

right now I alternate between a rat 3 and sog pe2...

Well, if you're special enough to carry a fixed blade, then you're special enough to carry a handgun.

Go out and pick up an LCR for $325 and drop it into your left pocket.  Done.
And when you go back on duty, you've got a good backup gun.

something isnt right here. they will not strip an officer of his police powers just for an injury If you could not  preform your duty they would put an officer on light duty or he would be off on injury until he is able to come back to work,

If you are on limited duty or out sick for 10 days they will take your weapon depending on the injury.  My weapon hand is in cast.  If it was a sprained ankle or superficial cut it would be non issue.

Ain't MD great. "We don't even trust our cops with guns". Guess you're stuck with nothing more than harsh language.

Don't they teach you guys to shoot weak hand?

Yes,  We qual twice a year and it includes left hand...  The writing on the wall here is clear anyway.  My Dept. is slimming down by pushing people out through medical retirement.  I won't go into details but I guess I wanted to believe more that they valued us more than just numbers.

Anyway, I am going to apply for a MD permit.  As LEO I may have a better chance of getting one and then I would be covered, at least in MD.

Good Luck, I know of a prosecuting attourney, with threats from criminal he put behind bars who were getting out, get denied.  He had all kinds of proffessional training. He was turned down.  It's not what you know, but who you blow in the state.

Just remember when it comes time to vote.

Sadly, a lot of police officers never run into the problem you have and they remain unaware that this state's politicians would just as soon screw them as any of the rest of us.

And that's the truth... I've let myself go mentally and physically over the years because I had a gun on me 24/7.  Now I've realized that I may not be a cop forever and have to transition back to where I was before.  And all these years I took for granted that I had a gun with me wherever I went and it didn't matter where I lived.

How long have you been on the job? What about a LEOSA permit?

Something isn't adding up.

LEOSA is now 10 years.  I've got 4 more months.
