I'm not sure if it's 18.5 or 18 as a minimum. I have an 18.5 on my Mossy. I'm sure someone will be along soon with the correct answer.

It was my understanding that 18 is the minimum, 18.5 is to remove any doubt from  the picture. Say......bad measuring.

if i were you, i would have a pro do it. there was a case here in Va i believe where a guy cut down his barrel and ended up measuring wrong and was under 18". he got charged with possession of an unregistered SBS.

Don't forget that while the barrel must be 18" or greater, the overall length must be 26" or greater.

I will go 18.5" just to be safe. I never heard about the 26" rule, but I will follow it.

Barrel length is measured by inserrting a rod or dowel into the barrel against a closed bolt. The measurement is taken from the bolt face. Cut a little longer, to give you room to file it square and debur.

A note to the OP,  these guys have the measurements correct,  and just FYI,
these are Federal BATFE requirements,  not MD state law.
