So I downloaded the application and will have it notarized.  Is that it, just one form?  It seems almost too easy for MD.

Also, what should I list as "nature of collecting activities"?

Yes, it's really that easy

As for purpose, they pretty much take anything. I think I put down 'collecting historic military and modern firearms'

Thanks for the resposne.  I'll be moving in the next couple of months (same county probably) will I have to resubmit so that the collector letter has my new address on it?

No, they log you by name and ssn, not address.

And, from what I understand, if you are married insure that your spouse has one too. That way they can acquire your entire collection upon your demise, without having to cope with the insane 30 day wait period between handgun acquisitions.

There is an exemption for estates

§ 5-129. Same - Multiple purchases allowed.

(a)  Requirements.- Notwithstanding § 5-128(b) of this subtitle, a person may purchase more than one regulated firearm in a 30-day period if:

(1) the person applies for and the Secretary approves a multiple purchase; and

(2) (ii) the purchase of the regulated firearms is a bulk purchase from an estate sale;

Also, the statute specifically says purchase, I wonder if it even applies to an inheritance situation.

The Secretary must approve and both conditions must be met. I wouldn't take the chance. I will just have my wife get the collector status.

Download the application from the MSP website, get it notarized and mail in.  I will have mine notarized this week.  Not sure what the turnaround time is.

They can deny it if your purpose for collecting is not sound, however on mine I put "Desire to own various firearms, mostly modern types, for investment and personal interest."  got it notarized, sent it out, and about 2 weeks later i got my letter back, which is all you need to take to your local dealer to purchase more than one regulated firearm at a time.

ALTHOUGH, working at Gander Mountain, our manager has decided to not partake in the sale of multiple regulated firearms in one transaction.  An employee messed up a transaction and we got screwed on an audit over paperwork misfiling.  So you may apply and purchase more than one per month, but you must apply for each seperately which means 10 dollar background fee per gun and a whole lot of unecessary writing.  NOTE this is solely gander mountain policy as each FFL holder has the right to sell to whoever they please however they please

Good advice - hadn't considered that issue.  Thanks!
