Also, in MD, all new handguns are presumably banned first, and then, only after review, most handguns are added to a "not dis-approved" roster or list. Some handguns are NEVER added to the list and are always banned (no exception for you); I believe the common Kel-Tek P-32 is one example. If you own a P-32, your only option is to lawfully sell and transfer that gun BEFORE YOU GET HERE! There are other handguns that are always banned in MD so check first. Also, leave your carry permit at home - its no good here and there is no way you are ever getting a permit in MD. "Carry" im MD includes transport of any gun in a car and is banned unless you can prove that you fit one of about 5 exceptions. Even if you meet an exception, there is a hunting law applicable only on hunting lands that implies: "loaded magazine = loaded gun" and will get you arrested. Problem is, every cop in MD is trained to apply the law everywhere in the state. Keep mags unloaded. |
Doesn't that only apply to sales? I though that, with the exception of "assault pistols", anything you owned personally was OK to bring into the state but you would not be able to sell it within MD's boundaries. I called MSP about registration of handguns owned prior to moving to MD and the trooper said that registration was voluntary "but I don't know why anyone would want to do that". Damn I hate these convoluted laws here. |
Was not aware there was a loop-hole. Just going by what all the FFLs in MD told me when I was an MD resident and I asked how I could buy a Kel-Tek P-32. They said it was not possible. Turns out it IS possible, you just have to move out of state, establish residency, buy a Kel-Tec P-32, then move back to MD and establish residencey again. I stand corrected. |
Just to clear things up - MD uses the term "regulated" firearm meaning 7 day wait, background check, $10 MSP paperwork fee, etc.. I'm sure being under 21 would be a no go since you would be the possessor, especially for pistols and revolvers. If they are legal on base they may have to stay on base until you are 21. |
